Created attachment 192138 [details] this is the file where the TOC is corrupted Please see the attached file. Thank you very much for your help!
Maybe I should not say it is corrupted, it shows up correctly in other software such as MSO365 and Only Office Desktop Editors.
I'v just updated the index and it look good for me. Does it also work for you? => NEEDINFO Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 40617d867346956588ac023511f31210107217f4 CPU threads: 4; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19045; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: de-DE (de_DE); UI: en-GB Calc: CL threaded
I agree rebuilding the table of contents looks fine while you have the document open. However when you save it as an XLSX file and reopen it the table of contents is once again corrupted. This is the bug I was talking about. Thank you for your help! Please test this and confiem my bug/problem so someone can fix it.
I opened the original file in office.com and it is not shown correctly. Abstract entry is said to be on page 4 (same as in the latest LibreOffice). I have to update it to make it say page 3. After I update the ToC in LibreOffice, save as DOCX and reopen, the correct result is still displayed. This is with version 24.2. I confirm your result with 7.6, so there has been a fix. 24.2.1 will be released this week, so you might want to wait for it. You can also use an appimage to test https://www.libreoffice.org/download/appimage/ Arch Linux 64-bit, X11 Version: 24.2.0.3 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 420(Build:3) CPU threads: 8; OS: Linux 6.7; UI render: default; VCL: kf5 (cairo+xcb) Locale: fi-FI (fi_FI.UTF-8); UI: en-US 24.2.0-1 Calc: threaded
Thank you very much for looking into my problem! I am looking forward to using Libre Office 24.2.1. May I ask one more question? This is not worth opening a new ticket. In this case I think LO 7.6 is correct and OnlyOffice DE is incorrect. In this new attached file how can the background of the cover page look totally different between LO 7.6 and the latest SNAP version of OnlyOffice Desktop Editors? Which software is correct? Does this symptom indicate a problem of some kind in either office suite?

In which software was it last saved? It looks broken in Microsoft's office.com. The abstract only starts on page 7. There are 5 basically blank pages between the cover and the abstract. Surely this is not the intention.
Comment on attachment 192856 [details] The background of the cover page looks different see my final question The document was most likely created in MSO365 or some other full version of MSO. Those blank pages are the table of contents. Please see the attached screenshots.
Created attachment 192858 [details] screenshots showing how the file looks to me I can not see those 5 blank pages in either LO 7.6.4.1 or OpenOffice DE.

I don't think office.com would display it differently from the desktop version.
