Description Peter 2024-02-03 15:47:06 UTC
Description:
LO 7.4.3.2 for MacOS could open all Claris/AppleWorks and .pages documents.
LO 7.5.9-2 for Manjaro Linux does not open any of them

I am switching from MacOS 10.13.6 to Manjaro KDE 23.1.2. The higher version of LO that comes with Manjaro does not open any of the respective files (in Writer and Calc).

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Right-click on .cwk or .pages document
2.Choose "Open with"
3.Choose "LibreOffice"

Or double-click on cwk-/pages-document

Actual Results:
LO says: "The file is corrupt and cannot be opened. LO can try to repair the file"

> "yes"

>> "The file could not be repaired and therefore cannot be opened"

Expected Results:
Open the file with (almost) full formatting, as LO 7.4.3 for MacOS did.

Reproducible: Always

Would it be possible you attach an example file?
Have in mind that any file attached is automatically made public so if you have confidential data in it, don't attach them or sanitize them on Claris/AppleWorks if you still got the software (see https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Sanitizing_Files_Before_Submission)

Various .CWK, .cws, .pages and .numbers files in assorted folders

Dear Julien,

thanks for responding.

I gladly attach various files of the mentioned types:

ClarisWorks 2.1
ClarisWorks 4.0
AppleWorks 6.0
Pages 4.0.3
Numbers 2.0.3

plus their respective conversions to LibreOffice files, which I did with LibreOffice 7.4.3.2 under MacOS 10.13.6 (so you can see what they are supposed to look like).

LO 7.5.9-2 for Manjaro Linux will not open them any more.

When I switched from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice recently, I was delighted to find that LO was the first software that was able to open absolutely ALL of the old files, in full formatting.

Now I’m switching from MacOS to Linux, and the LO version for Linux won’t do the same job.

All the files can be made public, no problem.

Best regards,
Peter

This sounds like a Manjaro bug.

I can successfully open all the Claris/Pages/Numbers files, even the ones without a file extension, on macOS with

Version: 7.5.9.2 (AARCH64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: cdeefe45c17511d326101eed8008ac4092f278a9
CPU threads: 8; OS: Mac OS X 14.2.1; UI render: default; VCL: osx
Locale: fr-FR (fr_FR.UTF-8); UI: fr-FR
Calc: threaded
Comment 4 Julien Nabet 2024-02-07 10:22:09 UTC
I could open the files too on pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 24.2.

I put it back to UNCONFIRMED.

Also tested on Linux Ubuntu with

Ubuntu Snap LibreOffice version 24.2.0.3 (x86_64) LibreOffice Community
All ClarisWorks/Pages/Numbers files could be opened successfully.

@Peter: you will probably need to raise a bug report with the Manjaro people, perhaps they have removed or forgotten to include some of the filters in their version?

Am inclined to mark this as NOTOURBUG.
Comment 7 Peter 2024-02-07 19:16:30 UTC
Dear Julien,
dear Alex,

thank you very much indeed!

So I will see if I can raise a bug report with Manjaro.

I tested: it is the same with Manjaro xfce, not only with Manjaro KDE Plasma.

Best regards,
Peter
