Example file from Impress with differently indented paragraphs

Attached document has some differently indented paragraphs in Impress.
When the first two are selected, the indent markers disappear from the ruler.
When the second and third are selected, the indent markers are displayed and can be moved.

1. Open attached file
2. Enable rulers with View - Rulers
3. Select the Aaa and Bbb paragraphs
-> The indent markers disappear from the ruler and can't be used to set a new common indent for both paragraphs
4. Select the Bbb and Ccc paragraphs
-> The indent markers are displayed and usable

I see it as described in:

Version: 24.8.0.0.alpha0+ (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: 53c5d570cab036b23f4969b858a648c8f0c24f93

But Writer does the same. What kind of markers do you expect to see in step 3?

A possible solution would be to make it show the markers of the paragraph containing the cursor, like PP does.

Similar request is bug #75899 for Writer. Word behaves a bit differently:
- If I'm selecting two paragraphs from top to down, the markers of the first (topmost) are visible
- If I'm selecting two paragraphs from down to top, the first (topmost) pragraphs markers become visible
-> so the second paragraphs alignment can be aligned to the first.

Of course Word and PP are separate apps, while LO has a single ruler... asking for UX opinion.
Shall we copy PP and Word behavior separately, or do something consistently in both apps?

My take: Show multiple rulers for every paragraph, and keep it visible but disabled. The interaction with all based on a random item (what is first when you select from bottom to top or in other writing systems) seems odd to me. Very low priority and kind of NAB (not an issue).

We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

Opinions vary from keep as it is with the argument that multi-selection is not editing and the spotlight/inspector tools do a great job to show multiple ruler and make them interactive. MS Word shows the parameter from the currently active paragraph and thumbs colorized depending on whether all values are the same. If one adjusts the ruler for varying values, ie. the handing indent of 0.5 and 1cm, the change is applied to all paragraphs. Quite convenient.

We also need to consider the sidebar. Right now it becomes empty but we could do something similar with font in italic or so.
