Description Uffe Kousgaard 2024-02-08 09:54:07 UTC
Description:
PDF export seems to create a bookmark for every sheet in a spreadsheet, but with only 1 sheet, it is just in the way. Adobe Reader insists on opening a separate window with the bookmarks.
My workaround at the moment is to use a separate PDF printer driver to avoid bookmarks.

Actual Results:
Create a spreadsheet with any kind of cell content. A single sheet. Export to PDF and use adobe reader to view the result. A bookmark called sheet1 has been added.

Expected Results:
Nothing to add here

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
not created any bookmarks, when there is only 1 sheet.

The Writer module does the same thing. Creates an empty bookmark section, when exporting to PDF.
Comment 2 Stéphane Guillou (stragu) 2024-03-23 07:31:18 UTC
With the default export settings, I don't see any bookmark. Only the name of the sheet in the Outline panel of my PDF readers (Okular, Evince, Firefox).
Please test in safe mode to see if it is related to your saved settings?
Have you tried playing with the options available on the PDF Export dialog? E.g. you can untick "export outlines" if you don't want it to show.

Here is a PDF exported and then viewed with acrobat reader. Outline has been disabled, but the empty bookmark section is still created. Also running in safe mode.

The same steps when printing the PDF using bullzip pdf driver, generated no bookmark section at all.

So now that Outline is deactivated on export, you have "Sheet1" in the Bookmarks panel, right? It is empty, and that's a part of the Acrobat Reader UI, so you can close that panel, correct?
To have it closed as a default, maybe there's something useful here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-reader-discussions/default-hide-navigation-pane-on-left-side-acrobat-reader-dc/td-p/9045678

Closing as "not a bug".
(And in any case, please update to a currently-maintained version, 7.6 or 24.2, to test further.)

PDF's generated about 6-8 months ago don't have this issue, so something has been changed in the libreoffice software, since it is the same PDF viewer I am using.

I have updated libreoffice in the meantime, multiple times I guess

Your suggestion about how to launch acrobat reader is 7 years old and don't work. I'm not even sure the navigation panel is the same thing as the bookmark window.

You can always discuss who is to blame: Libreoffice for creating an empty bookmark section or acrobat reader for reacting upon it.

I'm sure other users will get annoyed by this too, since it is a bug across the whole suite.

7.6.5.2 has the bug, too.

Thanks for testing a recent version, but please keep the original _earliest_ version known in the field.

It's true that the PDF format can also control the display of the user interface of the PDF reader when it is opened (as long as the software supports these features).
For your issue, please try this setting: File > Export > PDF > Initial View > Panes. You can pick "Page only" if you don't want it to show.

Yes, that actually worked. Thanks.
