After setting the character name to LibreOffice Sans and size to 12 point, entering <control>+m resets the font size to 10

Sometimes <control>+m sets the font name to Arial and font size to 10

Ouch, Tracey

Please tell us your Libreoffice version. Help - About.

[Ctrl+M] clear the direct format, so cell's style is applied.
In your case 'Default style'.
Instead of change the size while the cell is selected, you can:
Option a: Modify the 'Default style' for the 'Font' options.
or
Option b: Create a new style from 'Default style' giving it the name you like, modify 'Font' to what you need, and applied this new style to the cells.

Maybe fits better for you modifying the default template for calc.

@Tracey,

With all due respect, reviewing other reports that you started (not so long ago), you keep opening reports about basically the same thing, just with a slight different wording, or a slight different problem that has the same basic solution as in another report that you opened before.

You even have reports that were left in NEEDINFO status without replying to them.

This site is not for user support, but for bug reports or enhancement requests. There are user guides, user mailing lists, and <https://ask.libreoffice.org>, among other possibilities. Please use them. Only open a new report when there is _really_ a bug report or an enhancement request, preferably after confirming it with other users in those other channels.

I'll leave this report in the same status as I see it now, NEEDINFO. I hope you realize that this is not a real bug report and close it as INVALID yourself.

Your comment is well taken.

From now on I will post to Ask LibreOffice first then see how they respond.
Thanks, Tracey

BTW I still think most of my posts are justifiable (except maybe a few if I am NOT understanding something correctly).

When I have to frequently use a work-around to achieve standard document(formatting or operational procedure) I think this is either a bug or an enhancement is needed (as applicable).

The following are 2 examples from what I have posted (there are others):

When I pasted formatted text from outside an ODT/ODS document into an ODT/ODS document, the text formats are retained.
When I pasted formatted text from/to an ODT/ODS document text formats are lost.
It was discovered that it works in safe-mode, but not in normal mode.
Rather than fix it, I was told to be in safe-mode when I want to copy/paste text from/to ODT/ODS (not a professional solution).

When I used find/replace to change selected font styles, I discovered that it corrupted the document.
It was discovered to be true, but rather than fix find/replace utility I was told NOT to use find/replace to change font styles (not a professional solution).

As in this case, I am asking for is the ability to set the default font size to 12 point across the board not on a file by file basis.
Years ago 10 point was fine, but now with my declining eyesight I find 12 point to be necessary.

I think that it is a legitimate enhancement to calc to set the default font size as is done in writer and requiring styles/templates is not (Is the End-User the person TS is trying to assist/support?).
I do NOT want to have to set the default font with every new document/file.
If I understand correctly, styles & templates are required to be applied each time.

I tried using what was suggested, but that did not appear to functional solution (maybe I did something incorrectly).

I posted #159825 because a response stated that LibreOffice would to be changed to set the default in calc like it is in writer.

Just FYI, Tracey

My guess is that using LO safe mode was intended as a test, part of the procedure to find out the reason/origin of the problem. I think it was not intended as a permanent solution.

Again, I would suggest presenting the specific case in the Ask forum site, including what exactly you are copy-pasting and from where (e.g. web page, text formatted as bold, with 'X' font...), exact version of LO – use menu Help > About, use the icon in there to copy the info and paste it in your first post for each topic – in which module you are pasting to (Calc, Writer, Impress…) and other relevant information. If other users replicate the behavior and cannot find any real permanent solution – using Safe Mode is not – then you can start a new bug report with clear steps to reproduce the problem.

Again, Ask site.

Again, please use the Ask site, where possible misunderstandings could be re-asked and clarified, with links to Help content and what not. Please understand that using this Bugzilla site for such things would waste a lot of resources.

In other report(s) you have started, the suggestion to use templates (or to modify the default template) was also offered, as in this report. There might be better ways to do this, but perhaps LO lacks such method ATM. One thing is "how to do it with current available methods in LO", and another is to request a new method that might be easier for users in the future.
Whichever the case, such discussions could start in the Ask site, and then present a clear suggestion by opening a new report.

Please review your currently-opened reports and act accordingly, for instance replying to those in "needinfo" status.
