Description p.wibberley 2024-03-25 22:39:39 UTC
Description:
In Writer, 'Tools'.'Language'.'For Selection' shows English(UK) checked. 'Tools'.'Language'.'For Paragraph' shows English(UK) unchecked, and trying to check it merely closes the menu. 'For All Text' is the same as 'For Paragraph'.

Selecting 'Tools'.'Spelling' shows Text language as "[None]", with the only other option in the drop down menu being "English(USA)". Spellchecking doesn't work.

NB 'Tools'.'Options'.'Languages and Locales'.'General' shows 'User Interface', 'Locale setting' and 'Default Languages for Documents'.'Western' are all "English (UK)" or "Default-English(UK)"

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open new or existing document and select menu options, as in Description, above
2.
3.

Actual Results:
As Description

Expected Results:
Spell-checking should work, using English(UK)

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
'Tools'.'Options'.'Languages and Locales'.'General' shows 'User Interface', 'Locale setting' and 'Default Languages for Documents'.'Western' are all "English (UK)" or "Default-English(UK)"

I have noticed this problem only since upgrading to Neon 6.0 and Libreoffice 24.2 from 7.6(?). The problem remains if I restart in Safe Mode.

Get the same behavior in all tested versions here (since LO 7.2). Language 'for paragraph' and 'for all text' won't be chosen, clicking on checkbox won't select this. Checkboxes for this submenue first appear in LO 7.4. Earlier version won't show any checkbox there.

When using spellchecking the language will automatically be found. First it shows no selected language, but when detecting wrong words it switches to the language I use and which is selected in Tools → Options → Language.

All very irritating for me.

Please attach sample, maybe explain within what you see and expect.
Asking that as this does not seem like a general issue.

Screenshot showing Tools.Language.For Paragraph menu

Not sure if this helps, but this screenshot shows the lack of selected language.

Screenshot showing lack of selected language.

... and this screenshot shows the lack of a selected language, as well as the lack of any suggestions for obvious misspellings, suggesting that no spellchecking is going on.

(I think there may be a bit of bug #160159, also).

Not sure what other information I can provide, but open to suggestions.

Screenshots of the bugs, which appear with choosing a language.

You only need to open an new Writer file and type some content. So no example file is needed.

Choosing Language → For Paragraph is impossible (not checked)
Choosing Language → For All Text is impossible (not checked)
If there is no mistake in the content «Text language:» in Tools → Spelling will be shown as «[None]». Dialog will only show the language if there are mistakes in the text content.
