IIUC the complaint is that the modifier keys are literal.

That is, for keyboard mappings where a <Shift> modifier is needed to reach alternate keycode, the '<Ctrl>+#' shortcut is unreachable, and is instead emitted as <Ctrl>+<Shift>+3 on an en-US keyboard.

Likewise for an unreachable '<Ctrl>+=' shortcut, where it is emitted as <Ctrl>+<Shift>+= on an en-US keyboard.

But there has been no change in keyboard shortcut behavior.

Not clear if there is any benefit to refactoring to expand the available keysyms to assign. But that is the ask of bug 115052

@Mike, what's your take? See anyway forward here...

Sorry Mike, sounded better in my head than reading it.

Do you see any way forward here?

Indeed, [Ctrl]+[3/#] is listed there as Ctrl+3 (the effect of pressing the [3/#] key without [Shift] is "3"); [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[3/#] is listed as Ctrl+Shift+3 ... and that is correct, because the "3" is stable, while the "#" depends on the keyboard layout. And it is completely unclear, what the "Ctrl+#" should mean. Possibly there are some keyboards / layouts with dedicated # key ... no idea, but I'd just check and drop all such combinations, and wait for consequences...

Agree with that.
Or maybe to avoid the disruption, for all those, create a second combination.

It happens in a Spanish keyboard layout with 'Ctrl+; to insert current date in a cell, there is no way to get it because ';' is the shift of ',' and 'Ctrl+Shift+,|;', doesn't get it.

I suggest to make this report a duplicate of bug 115527 "Redesign of the keyboard tab of the Customization dialog" or bug 115052 "Allow other keys than from US keyboard as shortcut keys".

Please reopen if needed.

Besides, the definition of default shortcuts is under the mandate of the local community.
