Description brannononeal 2024-04-23 03:09:37 UTC
Description:
I was typing a short story and had about two pages when suddenly my screen went black and I couldn't do anything. I tried and tried but eventually I had to turn the thing off and on again. When I turned it on, it said that LibreOffice had caused my computer to crash and that I should report the bug. It gave me the chance to recover my document, but the document it recovered was blank. All my work was gone. I am very upset by this. This is my first time using LibreOffice and this is what it has done to me. I have no clue how this happened or how to recreate it.

Actual Results:
I don't even know how this happened, it just glitched and my screen went black. I could move and see the mouse, but that was it.

Expected Results:
It should have been able to handle me typing a short story.

Reproducible: Didn't try

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
The most painful thing is that my work is lost. Is this to be expected when using this? Is there no way to save it?

Thanks for the report, and sorry you lost some work while using LO.
Version 24.2 brings changes in autosave, autorecovery and backup, hopefully making it a lot less likely users will lose work. See https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleaseNotes/24.2#Core_/_General
I would recommend installing the latest version (currently 24.2.3), and then reviewing the settings in Tools > Options > LibreOffice > Load/Save > General, so you can set it up as suits you best.

About the version that crashed, can you please provide the full version information copied from Help > About LibreOffice? There's a button to copy the text.

Regarding the crash you experienced, there isn't enough information here to track down what has happened, unfortunately.
If you experience a crash again:
- if you see a Crash Report dialog, please do generate a report and share the link here.
- If you notice a series of steps that might have triggered the issue, please describe them here.
- If the crash happens with a specific document, please share it here if you can.
- Please share the message that told you that "LibreOffice had caused my computer to crash".

For now, I am closing this as "resolved - insufficient data", but please set it back to "unconfirmed" if you can provide some more info.
Thank you.
