Description Steve Horn 2024-05-22 11:00:27 UTC
Description:
Many CSV files I open in Libre Office errantly expand data across cells so that columns of data do not line up. Sometimes it behaves as if spaces are interpreted as commas. That is to say, if in a cell there is a string "my dog has fleas", libre office places each word in its own column thus moving following cells to the right and mis-aligning columns of data.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open a csv created by another person, software unknown
2.
3.

Actual Results:
cell data split and spread to adjacent cells to the right of intended cell

Expected Results:
cell data stay in its cell

Reproducible: Sometimes

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
Opening same file in Google Sheets, Mac Numbers, Microsoft Excel shows data in appropriate cells. It appears files I create in Libre Office behave as intended but other sources do not which include: WordPress data exports, CSVs sent from other people.

This is on Mac Studio 2023 running Sonoma and Macbook Pro 2016 running Monterrey
I don't know what hardware or version applies.

For this to be a relevant report, we would need to know which options were selected ON and which ones were OFF in the import dialog when importing the CSV, and we would also need a relevant CSV file that "fails" to work as expected with those specific options.

In the web page of the bug report, there is a link named "Add an attachment". Please keep in mind that any file attached to the report will be publicly available. Please try to use a basic minimal case that would show the problem, and which specific importing options you used for it.

Please also open LO > menu Help > About and use the icon in-there to copy the version information; then paste it here in your next comment.
