Description: Since I started using LO about a year ago I've been having a really horrible problem with it freezing up when trying to save spreadsheet files. The rest of Windows would be fine, but when trying to save LO would be stuck with the green progress bar, then grey out and finally show 'not responding' in the title bar. RAM and CPU would be constantly on highest usage until eventually I would have to kill the program. Seems I am not the only one... https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/libreoffice-writer-freezes-every-time-i-save-the-file-what-am-i-supposed-to-do/33629 https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/save-as-completely-hangs-libreoffice-under-windows-11/89445 https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/libre-office-v7-04-crashes-when-saving/62476 https://forum.manjaro.org/t/libreoffice-hangs-when-saving/82508 https://ask.libreoffice.org/t/libreoffice-freezes-on-save/103231 https://forum.manjaro.org/t/libreoffice-slow-hangs-and-not-saving-files/146205 Today I found what seems to be the solution. Simply save as .ods instead of .xlsx. Problem (apparently) solved. Hope this helps someone. ETA: I am on Windows Windows 11 Home Version 22H2. Device name DESKTOP-SV3I9FS Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB I don't think that CPU is actually deemed suitable to run Windows 11 and think the person who sold me the PC may have done some kind of workaround. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Makes changes to file 2. Try to save file Actual Results: stuck with the green progress bar, then grey out and finally show 'not responding' in the title bar. RAM and CPU would be constantly on highest usage until eventually I would have to kill the program. Expected Results: The file should be saved Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: I don't think that CPU is actually deemed suitable to run Windows 11 and think the person who sold me the PC may have done some kind of workaround.
Created attachment 194440 [details] An example of the type of file I was trying to edit and save
Hmmm... I WAS NOT able to reproduce in: Version: 24.2.3.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community Build ID: 433d9c2ded56988e8a90e6b2e771ee4e6a5ab2ba CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 22631; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win Locale: en-US (en_US); UI: en-US Calc: CL threaded - - - double.happiness, Does the same thing happen for you in LibreOffice's "Safe Mode"? In Calc: - Help > Restart in Safe Mode - Press "Continue in Safe Mode" button. - Try to open/save your sample XLSX file. - - - I did these steps: 1. Open the example file. 2. Added some random numbers/text after the final rows. 3. File > Save As. 4. In the "Confirm File Format" popup: - Choose "Use Excel 2007-365 Format". After saving it, I did not get a freeze or anything. - - - Note: User first posted this on the LibreOffice subreddit: - https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/comments/1d1yk6l/if_you_are_having_difficulty_saving_spreadsheet/
I did not test, but may be affected with fix in bug 152104 that is so far only in master 25.2 (to see if it will spoil something), so 24.8 and 24.2 and way back to 7.4 are all slow.
