Description Leona Go. 2024-06-05 14:15:45 UTC
Description:
After downloading and installing the .deb files I noticed that both 7.3.7 and 24.2.3 were installed.
The reason being that the downloaded .debs installed as libreoffice24.2-* instead of libreoffice-*.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
Download the files for manual dpkg install (e.g. LibreOffice_24.2.3_Linux_x86-64_deb.tar.gz) from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download-libreoffice/?type=deb-x86_64&version=24.2.3&lang=de
2. unpack
3. install `sudo dpkg -i *.deb`

Actual Results:
libreoffice24.2-* 24.2.3.2-2 is installed and does not supersede libreoffice-* 1:7.3.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.5

Expected Results:
libreoffice-* 24.2.3.2-2 is installed and replaces libreoffice-* 1:7.3.7-0ubuntu0.22.04.5

Reproducible: Always

Thanks for the report.
This is by design and allows installing several versions in parallel on Linux.
If you would rather have updates that keep replacing older major versions, please use a PPA:
- latest releases: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
- more conservative, so likely more stable: https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-still

To remove an older version, you can do:

sudo apt-get remove --purge libreoffice7.3*
