Description: Writer can be set to have a different footer on the first page of a document, but the setting is not saved with the document and reverts to checked status. The page 1 footer content is overwritten with the content from the remaining pages' footer. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Writer, create a new document without template 2. Point to Format > Page style... and select the Footer tab 3. Select 'Footer On', deselect 'Same content on first page' and click OK 4. On the first page, click in the footer area and Enter 'Page ' then point to Insert > Field > Page number 5. Click back in the page area, optionally type 'Page 1', then Ctrl-Enter (or point to Insert > Page break) 6. In page 2, type 'Page 2' and press Ctrl-Enter again 7. In Page 3, type 'Page 3', then click in the footer 8. Type a hyphen and space, point to Insert > Field > Page number, type another space and hyphen 9. Click the Centre button to centre the footer 10. Click the Print Preview button. You should see the first page with 'Page 1' at the left, and the remaining two pages '- 2 -' and '- 3 -' respectively centred 11. Save the document and close 12. Re-open the document. You will observe that the first page's footer is now '- 1 -' centred 13. Point to Format > Page style... and observe that 'Same content on first page' is checked again. Actual Results: The option 'Same content on first page' is only preserved while the document is open Expected Results: That the footer option will be saved in the document file and reloaded with the document and the first page footer preserved. Reproducible: Always User Profile Reset: No Additional Info: Impact: Users must remember to reset the first page footer every time they re-open a document with different first page footers. This affects most documents in my company as the company template has company information in the first page footer and page numbers thereafter. This bug makes a page number appear superimposed on the company information (which is in a frame) and looks very unprofessional.
It should be noted that exactly the same bug affects headers. It is not influenced by the 'Same content on left and right pages' option (which *is* maintained when saved) First page footer/header content is not restored if you deselect the First page option again.
On pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 24.2.3.2, I don't reproduce this. (I also tried with master sources updated today). Could you give a try to last LO version 24.2.4 ?
Tested on laptop with 7.6.4.1 - not reproduced Upgraded laptop to 7.6.7.2 (same as desktop where encountering the problem) - not reproduced On desktop, restarted LO in Safe Mode - not reproduced. Problem returns when start Normal. Tested starting with a variety of templates, including an original one (i.e. as installed, not altered) from 2018 and one from 2013. Problem persists. In addition, an older document opened on laptop does not exhibit the issue. I don't think it is template-related. Only extensions are various spelling dictionaries and Alternative Searching 1.4.2 dating from 2007. When I open older documents, they are OK to start with, but if I make a superficial change and save them, the first page footer (and 'Same content on first page' option) is lost when I reopen. The problem started sometime between mid-March and mid-November 2023. I tend to keep fairly up to date with the stable branch. My current theory is that there is a setting I have on my desktop, but not the laptop (which is fairly new) that clashes with saving the 'Same content on first page' option. If that is correct, it would still be a bug...
Not a bug! 'Broken' versions of files saved as ODF version 1.2 rather than 1.3 Extended. Solution: 1. Point to Tools > Options... 2. In Load/Save > General, under Default File Format and ODF Settings, change ODF format version to '1.3 Extended' rather than 1.2. 3. Click OK.
