Created attachment 194680 [details] spreadsheet saved as .xls This is a sample of the type of file that is causing a problem. While creating this file I discovered that this problem happens when the file type is Excel 97-2003 (*.xls). There is no problem with file type Excel 2007-365 (*.xlsx).

I am using an inexpensive laptop that I recently purchased. It is a Lenovo Ideapad 1I running Windows 11 home. It was in s mode. I couldn't turn off s mode by following any of the instructions from microsoft. I had to disable secure boot in the bios. As for the problem, I didn't do anything unusual. 1.open spreadsheet in calc 2. sort the file on a chosen column 3. save the file At that point I see the spinning circle and nothing happens. The software becomes unresponsive and I have to close it manually. The file itself is unchanged and the .~lock.(file name).xls# file is left behind.
