Description: When drying to print an A2 drawing on multiple A3 pages, the Distribute on multiple sheets of paper" option insists on attempting to print it on 4 (not 2) sheets, and it positions it so that you can't create a composite (laminated) poster without manual cropping/assembly (with scissors and sellotape)... I think this is because LO doesn't recognise that two LANDSCAPE A3 pages make one PORTRAIT A2 page. so it makes the Landscape A2 page from four Landscape A3 pages, and thereby makes the "Distribute on multiple sheets of paper" feature unusable.... The same problem occurs printing A3 on A4 sheets... Created attachment 194699 [details] a libreOffice drawing showing screen shots of the problem and settings I think there are other bugs referring to this feature back to 2015... sorry didn't record references, but I think the idea that the problem involves the relationship between the orientation of individual (printed) pages and the original drawing have been identified before.....
Please attach a sample file.
Created attachment 194711 [details] sample of DIN A2 drawing that SHOULD print on two pages of DIN A3 Paper - as req as requested please find attached a test/ example draw file.... This is a drawing with a page size of DIN A2 (in Landscape) that should print on two DIN A3 pages (in portrait). It has a different picture in each corner to allow you to check formatting (with this text box in the middle of the page!!
(In reply to m_a_riosv from comment #2) > Please attach a sample file. Done - thank you for looking :-)
I think there is a misunderstood on how the option works. https://help.libreoffice.org/24.2/en-US/text/shared/01/01130000.html?System=WIN&DbPAR=DRAW&HID=vcl/ui/printdialog/internalarea#:~:text=Portrait%20and%20Landscape.-,Pages%20per%20sheet,per%20sheet%20of%20paper.,-Select%20how%20many It is to join several pages in one, not to split. In the print window select 'LibreOffice Draw' tab, there is an option to distribute on multiple sheets of paper. https://help.libreoffice.org/24.2/en-US/text/shared/01/01130000.html?System=WIN&DbPAR=DRAW&HID=vcl/ui/printdialog/internalarea#:~:text=distribute%20on%20multiple%20sheets%20of%20paper
I have read your response and read the help pages you provided and I still think the "Distribute on multiple sheets of paper" is not functioning as described in the documentation. :-( I imagine the problem is that I failed to properly explain my problem. I will compile and submit a paper that more fully and clearly explains the issue that I think exists. That will take an hour or so, so I will submit another comment/attachment. Thanks
Created attachment 195963 [details] An A2 libra office drawing drawing to be printed on two sheets of A3 paper This is an LibreOffice drawing created at a LANDSCAPE A2 paper size that I want to print on two PORTRAIT A3 sheets of paper (as this will be an exact fit) using the "Distribute on multiple sheets of paper" option as described in this link which you included in your response. https://help.libreoffice.org/24.2/en-US/text/shared/01/01130000.html?System=WIN&DbPAR=DRAW&HID=vcl/ui/printdialog/internalarea#:~:text=distribute%20on%20multiple%20sheets%20of%20paper
Created attachment 195964 [details] a pdf file generated by "print" with "to file" selected using the draw file also attached this print file demonstrates the problem - instead of printing the A3 drawing created from the attached Draw file on 2 portrait A3 sheets, it incorrectly prints it on 4 landscape A3 sheets, and much of the result is blank paper.
Created attachment 195965 [details] a draw file showing (just as background) the relationship between "A series" paper sizes this image just shows the relationship between A-series paper sizes with dimensions in mm. IT IS NOT demonstrating the bug, just showing how each paper size can be created by combining two of the smaller pages (BUT) with OPPOSITE format - E.G. one landscape A2 sheet could be created exactly from two portrait A3 sheets with no waste. I hope this helps
I have reopened this as the last comments from the developer seemed not to understand my explanation of the problem/issue. Sorry, so I am trying again As the manual page referenced explains "Distribute on multiple sheets of paper Prints a large format document, such as a poster or banner, by distributing the document page across multiple sheets of paper. The distribution option calculates how many sheets of paper are needed. You can then piece together the sheets" The produce currently does not work as you cannot piece the resulting pieces together (look at my sample draw file and the pdf it makes, and try it for yourself. I THINK the problem is caused because when distributing the output across multiple pages the "printer function" needs to understand that to print an Ax sheet on multiple Ax-1 pages the paper orientation will need to be the OPPOSITE of the original document... so... for example to correctly distribute a LANDSCAPE A2 document over two A3 pieces of paper they will need to be printed in a PORTRAIT orientation. Sorry for not explaining this well enough last time. Also it might be helpful to know that this occurs irrespective of the printer chosen.
correction to text in last comment: "that to print an Ax sheet on multiple Ax-1 pages" should read "that to print an Ax sheet on multiple Ax+1 pages"
