Description HTK300 2024-06-22 08:45:24 UTC
Description:
the exported pdf file size from CALC is now a lot bigger that with LO 24.2. Previously I had CALC sheets with about 15 tabs without any images. The odt file was about 10 Mb, the exported PDF file was about the same file size, but with LO24.8 Calc exported it to pdf with 250 MB !

Steps to Reproduce:
1. hava a CALC sheet with multiple tabs open
2. export the entire Range of the file to pdf
3. make sure the image compression is 100 percent and 150 dpi selected
4. in my case I encrypted the pdf with a password for opening

Actual Results:
the pdf has significantly increased its file size by factor 20 from previous LO versions

Expected Results:
file size shall be within the same range as the odt file

Reproducible: Always

Please attach a sample file, reduce the size as much as possible without private information, and paste the information in Menu/Help/About LibreOffice, there is a copy icon.

Please attach also a screenshot of the 'General' tab on export window.

Hi,
apologies and sorry, fistly - I cannot send you this, secondly - I had few tiny images within two of the fifteen tabs, but they were small (below 50 kb each). After having removed those images the CALC *.odt file got smaller from 11 Mb to 7.5 Mb, but the resulting PDF export then just resulted in a reduction from 260 Mb to 257 Mb. Additionally, I tried to have the password protection disabled in both the *.odt and the pdf, but no improvements there according to the pdf file size.

Please test disabling 'Tagged PDF' option.

Hi,
in the new documentation WG24-WriterGuide.pdf on page 171 and 172 I found more details about 'Tagged PDF' option and the note about the significantly increased file sizes. The online F1-help feature provided with the LO app was really sparsely about it. I wish that this could be updated
Comment 10 Telesto 2024-06-24 11:38:40 UTC
Tagged PDF option is enabled by default.. This is surely a problem if it increases the file-size from 10mb to 250 mb

I did a small myself with different file. The file-size only doubled. So the increase by the factor 20 might be the primary bug..

Is it possible to add bug doc? Some instructing for Sanitizing Files https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Sanitizing_Files_Before_Submission
exhibiting the issue

Without an example file, it seems too much to assume.
