Description Jim Palasty "The Burton Nerd" 2024-06-29 18:30:12 UTC
Description:
When using LibreOffice Calc version 24.2.4.2, the application freezes every time I attempt to cut content, even with empty cells in a new document. This issue persists in safe mode and does not occur in other LibreOffice applications. Copy and paste operations within LibreOffice documents remain functional.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open LibreOffice Calc in safe mode
2. Create a new, empty spreadsheet
3. Try to cut any cell (even an empty one)
4. Observe that the application freezes

Expected Result: Cut operations should work smoothly without freezing the application.

Actual Result: LibreOffice Calc freezes and becomes unresponsive when attempting to cut.

System Information:
- OS: [Your operating system and version]
- LibreOffice Version: 24.2.4.2
- BuildID: 51a6219feb6075d9a4c46691dcfe0cd9c4fff3c2
- CPU: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11600KF @ 3.90GHz
- RAM: 32 GB (33416124 kB)

Additional Notes:
- Issue persists in safe mode
- Skia is disabled (UseSkia=false)
- Problem occurs even with a new user profile
- Hardware acceleration has been disabled
- Fresh install of LibreOffice did not resolve the issue
- Copy and paste operations within LibreOffice documents remain functional
- The issue is specific to the cut operation in Calc; other LibreOffice applications are not affected

Attachments:
dump.ini

Steps to Reproduce:
Launch LibreOffice Calc in safe mode
Create a new, empty spreadsheet
Select any cell (including empty cells)
Attempt to cut the selected cell using either the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+X) or the Cut option from the Edit menu
Observe the application's behavior

Actual Results:
LibreOffice Calc immediately freezes and becomes unresponsive upon attempting to cut a cell. The application window stops responding to user input, and the operation does not complete. This occurs even with empty cells in a new document and persists when LibreOffice is launched in safe mode.

Expected Results:
LibreOffice Calc should perform the cut operation smoothly without freezing. The selected cell's content (if any) should be removed from its original location and placed in the clipboard, ready for pasting. The application should remain responsive throughout this process.

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
This issue is specific to the cut operation in LibreOffice Calc version 24.2.4.2
The problem does not occur in other LibreOffice applications (e.g., Writer, Impress)
Copy and paste operations within LibreOffice documents remain functional
The issue persists after disabling Skia (UseSkia=false in the configuration)
A fresh installation of LibreOffice did not resolve the problem
The problem occurs with a new user profile and with hardware acceleration disabled
System specifications: 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-11600KF @ 3.90GHz, 32 GB RAM
Operating System: Windows 11 23H2 OS Build 22631.3737

It's not a backtrace but you can try https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugReport/Debug_Information#Windows:_How_to_get_a_backtrace if you feel like.

Have you tested disabling 'Clipboard history' on the system.

If it doesn't work, please test using the repair option in the system for the application, to the right of it on 'Add and remove programs'

I’ve cleared clipboard history. It had no effect.

However, I’ve figured out how to fix it. This only affects current build. I installed 1 version prior and had no issues. Updated to newest version, issue occurred every time EXCEPT when I opened Libreoffice as administrator (right click context menu). I ran as admin, new spreadsheet and existing spreadsheets on my system…cut and paste worked like a charm.

Ran Libreoffice under account privileges (no run as administrator)…cutting any cell (full or empty) again application locked up.

Hope this helps

Is that 24.2.3 that did not have the issue?

If that's the case, it would be very helpful to see if you can pinpoint the commit that caused it with a bibisection: https://bibisect.libreoffice.org/

Please also paste here the info copied from Help > About LibreOffice.

Instead of clearing the clipboard history, please close LO, disable the clipboard history/manager completely (i.e. set it to OFF) and then restart LO and test again. Is the freeze also seen in that condition?
