Description Thomas 2025-11-10 14:15:06 UTC
Description:
Since two days LibreOffice don't start. I have version 25.8.2.2 running on Win 11 aarch64 (Snapdragon Elite processor). I've tried: repair, restart, un-install, install again, un-install, install 25.8.3 (pre-release), un-install, reinstall 25.8.2.2 + re-namning LibreOffice user profile folder to LibreOffice_old + starting in safe mode. Nothing helps.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start LibreOffice
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Error message: soffice.exe - program error

Expected Results:
LibreOffice starting

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: Yes

Additional Info:
LibreOffice has worked fine until approx 2025-11-07. I've made no other installations on my PC the last couple of weeks. Besides LibreOffice I mainly work in Adobe Lightroom stand alone version 6.14.

Hi, I've now downloaded and installed the released 25.8.3 version for aarch64 Windows. Still get the same error.
Do you have any time schedule for when this bug can be fixed?

Hi LibreOffice
I've now solved this fatal error myself.

If more users then me get this error, here is the solution:

Download the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from Microsoft. The version that worked for me was VC_redist.arm64 14.50.35710

Probably it would be a good idea to inform users on ARM that they need to download and install the Visual C++ Redistributable before trying to install LibreOffice.

The reason to this fatal error is still unknown for me, but my best guess is that its a windows patch that caused the error.

Nevertheless, LibreOffice is now working on my machine and I can once again put my MS Office 2019 on hold - but I wont uninstall it yet ...

while I don't get the same message/it is not a crash but failure to launch message telling it cannot be launched because of the vcruntim140.dll and msvcp140.dll cannot be found.

That being said I always was under the impression that there are no merge modules for arm64 that could be integrated into our installer – and while it true that there only are x64 and x86 versions of the msms, what I now realized is that the x64 ones actually contain both amd64 as well as arm64 versions of the necessary dlls, so we can ship them as part of the installer.
