Description Eyal Rozenberg 2025-11-23 14:29:49 UTC
The Notebookbar Tabbed UI mode does not seem to offer a command, and a button, for opening the Find & Replace dialog - on any of the tabs. There is only 'Find' on the home tab, which opens the Find toolbar.

Find & Replace is in common enough use to merit a button on one of the tabs. If nowhere else, at least make 'Find' into a menubutton, which contains an item for Find & Replace (although, frankly, I would place that somewhere more prominent).

Because we have no Edit tab at all =)

It's more an enhancement, set to NEW

I believe it's more serious than that. It was a mistake on our part to exclude that command from the set of what's available on the tabs, and not just a possible improvement. We could say it's a minor bug though, since one can get at that dialog another way.

The ill labeled 'Home' menu exposure triangle of the Home tab's overflow menu accepts customization. The NB customization currently shows menu these items enabled active

MenuHome-FocusToFindbar --> 'Find...'
MenuHome-SearchDialog --> 'Find and Replace...'
MenuHome-GotoPage --> 'Go to Page...'

as well as the toggle for the Home tab's menu button 'Find'

Home-FocusToFindbar (which can be hidden by customization checkbox).

enhancement here might be to add a Home-SearchDialog entry to replace the Home-FocusToFindbar

Can see some benefit to allowing user to choose one or the other to appear on the Home tab. But little to showing them both at once.

We discussed the topic in the design meeting.

(Quick-)Find and F&R are available via context menu; and usually these functions are started per shortcut. But F&R is available in the standard toolbar of the classic UI so we agree that changing QF to F&R makes sense.

Code pointer:
In sw(sc/sd)/uiconfig/swriter/ui/notebookbar.ui the <object class="GtkToolButton" id="Home-FocusToFindbar"> has the <property name="action-name">vnd.sun.star.findbar:FocusToFindbar</property> which needs to be exchanged to <property name="action-name">.uno:SearchDialog</property>.
