My Mom (72-year old very non-technical interpreter) was bitten severely by Zoom Slider (http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Zoom_Slider). By mistake she clicked on it and without understanding what happened she suddenly got zoom 589%. Could you please make it (at least) possible to switch Zoom Slide off? Actually, I would argue that for Writer it should be opt-in completely (how many Writer users need different zooms of their documents? I would think that default Optimal zoom would be enough for 99% of users). Thank you

The bug is changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases. Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/BugHunting_Session_3.5.0.-1 more detail on this bulk operation: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/RFC-Operation-Spamzilla-tp3607474p3607474.html
I am not willing to install to my mom's production computer pre-release version of the software, but with the latest stable release (3.4.4) the situation is absolutely unchanged.

as far as I know there's no way to selectively turn on/off the zoom slider since OOo era. it would be nice to have an Advanced Expert Configuration setting that would allow the user to disable/enable that slider only. however as a workaround for your mum you can turn on/off the entire status bar from menu "View/Status Bar" is will hide the status bar so there's no way you accidentally click the slider. however it will unshow all other infos like page and character count, current style and language. @UX team do you think this could be turned into an easy hack?
(In reply to tommy27 from comment #5) > @UX team > do you think this could be turned into an easy hack? Even when the hack is easy the advanced configuration wouldn't be so. And I believe that hiding the status bar is sufficient enough. We cannot make any part of the UI optional. Closing the ticket as WFM.
