LibreOffice is awesome software even for some Desktop Publishing (DTP).

One function I am really missing is the possibility to define a crop area in the Page Styles. It would be very convenient if I could define a custom crop area - and also to easily change the crop area if the printery has different specs.

Would be happy to answer all of your questions if you have problems understanding what I mean.

Thanks a lot,

Phil

cedric, I don't really understand the enhancement, can you evaluate and make this a crazy/easy hack ( as appropriate )

From what I understood, that crop area would define the area to print in the page. I don't really see the use for it... That shouldn't be too hard to implement, but will certainly need to changes in ODF: possibly a not-so-hard hack, but I don't think that would be easy.

Phil: did I understand you correctly?

Well, yes.
The crop area is needed for example when you want to print a document without broders. So you will print it a little larger (with the crop area) on paper a little larger than the one you need, and then you cut the borders. That's the use of a crop area.
I attach a little image, so you get an Idea what i mean.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

Philipp, can you explain how crop area might change either the visual display of the file in LO (i.e. would LO show the crop area somehow);

and also, would the print change and how? For example, if my document is A4 size, and I set a crop area, does that change how the document prints?

I am struggling to understand what "crop area" would actually do or display differently from a document with no crop area. Thanks.
