Test to demonstrate problems in trying to create hyperlinks using copy and paste: 1) Set up a blank page and using Tools set up a hyperlink bar 2) Add the following line to the page: Death Risk Rankings, http://www.deathriskrankings.com/tutorial2.aspx . 3) Copy and paste “Death Risk Rankings” into the target text 4) Note: The selected text starts to appear as text in the target field as you are selecting the text in the document with the cursor, so it begs the question whether you still have to paste it when it is already appears there. 5) Click the cursor in the blank URL field.( Just to be safe but it should not be necessary). 6) Select the URL from the document with your cursor. 7) Note: As soon as you lift you finger off the mouse, the URL appears in BOTH the target text field and the URL field, thus wiping out the the previous text “Death Risk Rankings” in the target field. 8) Paste the URL in the URL field. 9) To try and recover the target, select “Death Risk Rankings” in the document 10) Note: As as you lift you finger off the mouse the text automatically appears in the target field and the URL field becomes BLANK. 11) Thus you are forced to type in at least one of the fields manually. I think the problem is related to automatically filling in the target field as you are selecting text from the document with a mouse. This automatic anticipation of what is going to pasted should be turned off when using the hyperlink bar
[Reproducible] with "LibreOffice 3.3.1 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) English UI [OOO330m19 (build 8 / tag 3.3.1.2)]" Steps to reproduce: 1. copy / paste complete text of reporter's step 2 into a new blank writer document 2. make sure that the hyperlink is a real working hyperlink, not only text Now we will try to get the hyperlink into text "Death Risk Rankings" 4. Select text "Death Risk Rankings" (using mouse) 5. Menu "Insert Hyperlink" Dialog opens, Tex will be already inserted into Text pane, that's comfortable 6. leave dialog open 7. only for testing, selecct some text by mouse or simply move the cursor caret through the document. Dialog text pane always will show welected text, not the text of the caret position (so Text pane will become empty as soon as you start moving caret through document) 8. Reselct text "Death Risk Rankings" 9. Click into Target pane 10. Click on hyplerink "http://www.deathriskrankings.com/tutorial2.aspx" Expected: should be inserted into target pane Actual: as expected, but additionally unexpected: Text pane also fille dwith hyperlink, Linked web page became opened in browser. I did lots of tests, but I did not succeed in using autofill to fill Text pane with text and additionally Target pane with hyperlink Currently the autofill function only works if caret position is in a word with a "hidden" hyperlink when you open the hyperlink dialog: - Text word will be shown in Text pane - Hyperlink will be shown in Hyperlink pane But IMHO that's only nice information, but not usable for creation of new hyperlinks My Summary: - Help should contribute information concerning auto fill - Auto difficult to use, you only can fill 1 pane with this function, other one has to be filled from clipboard 8or manual typing) - Ideas for a solution: - Text pane with contents should not be modified with recognized hyperlink or nothing, only with a new plain text selection - Target pane with contents should not be modified with recognized plain text or nothing, only with a new recognized hyperlink - Additionally a Hyperlink should not be executed as long as Dialog is open @Kendy: Added you to CC because of Missing Help problem. Any Idea who oculd be the right one to fix the dialog problem? @James Ronback: The ideal place for your (much better) new comment would have been Bug 34855 - Unable to create hyperlink by copy and paste
Obsolete due to "Bug 34413 - Menu entry "Hyperlink bar" not checked if activated" Comment 3?

Repro 6.4+. But not major, I'd say trivial because you can previously copy hyperlink instead of just clicking in URL.
