The .desktop files for MS Office filetypes at /usr/share/mimelnk/application have "Icon=libreoffice-" which means an icon is not shown for these filetypes in file manager. This was so in 3.3.2 (and probably earlier) and also in 3.4 beta 1. Affected files: /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-excel-sheet-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-excel-sheet-binary-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-excel-sheet.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-excel-template-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-powerpoint-presentation-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-powerpoint-presentation.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-powerpoint-template-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-word-document-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-word-document2.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-word-document.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-ms-word-template-12.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-openxmlformats-officedocument-presentationml-presentation.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-openxmlformats-officedocument-presentationml-template.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-openxmlformats-officedocument-spreadsheetml-sheet.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-openxmlformats-officedocument-spreadsheetml-template.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-openxmlformats-officedocument-wordprocessingml-document.desktop /usr/share/mimelnk/application/libreoffice-openxmlformats-officedocument-wordprocessingml-template.desktop
Still so in 3.4 beta 4. Some of the files also have the "Comment" field only in English, resulting in unlocalized file types in file manager: libreoffice-ms-excel-sheet.desktop libreoffice-ms-powerpoint-presentation.desktop libreoffice-ms-word-document2.desktop libreoffice-ms-word-document.desktop
and this is really a critical bug ?
(In reply to comment #2) > and this is really a critical bug ? Well, this definitely contributes to a uglier visual experience -- whatever we may wish to think, there are still a lot of M$O files sent around, and since LibO has mime-types for them, I see no reason why it should assign them non-existing icons (i.e. "libreoffice-.png"), meaning that not even the default document/spreadsheet icons are not shown for them after installing LibO (at least on my system).
(In reply to comment #1) > Some of the files also have the "Comment" field only in English, resulting in > unlocalized file types in file manager: I fixed this on master. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/libreoffice/libs-core/commit/?id=ff535f4e4462495a5623404fbc0f96eadec2dd82
Icons are simply not there. See for example http://opengrok.libreoffice.org/xref/libs-core/sysui/desktop/mimetypes/ms-excel-sheet-12.desktop#5 It is the same in OOo, so I lower the importance of this bug. I don't think that MS Office documents should have the same icons as ODF documents. We need new icons for MS Office document types.
[This is an automated message.] This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases. Please read this message in its entirety before responding. Your bug was confirmed at least 1 year ago and has not had any activity on it for over a year. Your bug is still set to NEW which means that it is open and confirmed. It would be nice to have the bug confirmed on a newer version than the version reported in the original report to know that the bug is still present -- sometimes a bug is inadvertently fixed over time and just never closed. If you have time please do the following: 1) Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (preferably 4.2 or newer). 2) If it is present please leave a comment telling us what version of LibreOffice and your operating system. 3) If it is NOT present please set the bug to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment telling us your version and Operating System Please DO NOT 1) Update the version field 2) Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker) 3) Set the bug to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case) + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + LibreOffice is powered by a team of volunteers, every bug is confirmed (triaged) by human beings who mostly give their time for free. Still repro. Version: 6.3.0.0.alpha0+ Build-ID: be8897d9c63a77b223a9c0aed1d2eb689e0e0082 CPU-Threads: 4; BS: Linux 4.15; UI-Render: Standard; VCL: gtk3; TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@86-TDF, Branch:master, Time: 2019-01-02_04:49:04
Strangely enough, I can't reproduce this with 6.4 nor current master anymore (on KDE5 / Arch Linux; master branch package converted from the TDF-provided RPMs). It appears that none of these .desktop files are even included in the package. Thomas, do you still see this on your system?
I can't reproduce this anymore, so let's close it.
