Description Milos Sramek 2011-06-08 10:06:55 UTC
LO Draw can currently export EPS files with a tight bounding box. This feature is, however, coupled with the Selection control. Bounding Box and Selection are, however, two different features. So I propose to add a new independent check box "Bounding Box" in the EPS export dialog.

Further, PDF export does not specify a tight bounding box even is Selection is ticked. So, I propose to add the check box "Bounding Box" as in the case of EPS.

Maybe there are also other formats, which support the bounding box.

I would appreciate this feature a lot - I create drawings in LO Draw to import them as PDFs to LaTeX.

Thanks!
Milos

[This is an automated message.]
This bug was filed before the changes to Bugzilla on 2011-10-16. Thus it
started right out as NEW without ever being explicitly confirmed. The bug is
changed to state NEEDINFO for this reason. To move this bug from NEEDINFO back
to NEW please check if the bug still persists with the 3.5.0 beta1 or beta2 prereleases.
Details on how to test the 3.5.0 beta1 can be found at:

Dear bug submitter!

Due to the fact, that there are a lot of NEEDINFO bugs with no answer within the last six months, we close all of these bugs.

To keep this message short, more infos are available @ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/NeedinfoClosure#Statement

Thanks for understanding and hopefully updating your bug, so that everything is prepared for developers to fix your problem.

Hi,

I am sorry, I probably did not notice the comment regarding NEEDINFO.
The situation is with LO 3.6.1 exactly the same as described in my first bug report
I thus recommend to reopen the bug

Thanks for new idea.
Please, attach simple document that demonstrates problem and screenshots of how currently it is and how it should be.

I think that it is difficult to specify the request any further by a document or screenshots, because Milos requests a functionality.

I have submitted a similar, but generalised request as bug 55317. I have written some more text in that request. Maybe the description of bug 55317 can also help for dealing with this bug 38082 here.

Hi,
Unfortunately, this bug was originally filed in a bad way - it addressed two separate (but related) problems. Thus I suggest to limit its scope to just the issue of separate controls (which is more like feature request) and to handle the missing bounding box in bug 55317. I find bug 55317 to be much more important.

New formulation of the problem:

LO Draw can currently export EPS files with a tight bounding box. This feature is, however, coupled with the Selection control. Bounding Box and Selection are, however, two different features. So I propose to add a new independent check box "Bounding Box" in the EPS export dialog.

Consequences of this status are:
1. One can export a full page (say, A4) with all content
2. One can export selected objects with a tight bounding box
3. One CANNOT export a full page with only selected objects

Separation of the controls for selection and bounding box would allow for the 3-rd option too.

If possible, I suggest to implement this also for pdf export and eventually other formats which have the bounding box feature.

How to check the current functionality (tested with LO4.4 alpha):
1. Export of everything, full page
a. open Draw and draw two objects: a circle and a star
b. choose File > Export, select Eps and press Save.
c. Open the eps file in a viewer: you can see a full (A4) page with two objects on it

2. Export of a selected object with a tight bounding box
a. open Draw and draw two objects: a circle and a star
b. Select the star object
c. Choose File > Export, select Eps, check the Selection field down left and press Save.
d. Open the eps file in a viewer: you can see just the object with no extra space around it

There is no possibility how to achieve option 3.
Is this description sufficient to change status of the bug to NEW?

Following Milos' argumentation and close this one as DUPLICATE
