Description Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2011-08-18 03:56:16 UTC
On a.m. Mailing lists I see my sender address as
<libreoffice-qa-bounces+libreoffice=bielefeldundbuss.de@lists.freedesktop.org>.

At least on Libreoffice my postings appear with delay or even get lost.

Can you be more specific about the problem?

Delay is always possible - for lost mail, can you point me to one example (e.g. retrieve one from your out-folder)?

I have subscribed libreoffice@lists.freedesktop.org, but very often it's impossible for me to post comments. for example, I posted some comments to thread "Bugzilla handling of multiple branches", but my postings did not appear. And now checking the source code of my postings I see the reason: My seamonkey sent them to the senders of the postings and not to the list :-(

So it seems at least for this affair a "can not post" problem does not exist

But:

The reason for that "Seamonkey arbitrary act" might have been the strange sender address:
<libreoffice-qa-bounces+libreoffice=bielefeldundbuss.de@lists.freedesktop.org>
instead of <libreoffice@lists.freedesktop.org>

A) I think in mails from list reaching me I should see:
From: Real sender of the mail <pmladek@suse.cz>
Reply to: Mailing list address <users@de.libreoffice.org>
To: Mailing list address: <users@de.libreoffice.org>

B) In libreoffice@lists.freedesktop.org and others I see
From: Real sender of the mail <pmladek@suse.cz>
Sender: ? <libreoffice-bounces+libreoffice=bielefeldundbuss.de@lists.freedesktop.org>
Reply to: Mailing list address <users@de.libreoffice.org>
To: Mailing list address: <libreoffice@lists.freedesktop.org>

I see correct sender addresses "A" for other mailing lists:
<users@de.libreoffice.org>, <documentation@global.libreoffice.org>,<discuss@documentfoundation.org>, <website@global.libreoffice.org>, <mirrors@documentfoundation.org>

I see strange "bounces" like "B" in <libreoffice@lists.freedesktop.org>, >libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org>, <libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org>,

For libreoffece-qa I tried a modification:

20/08/11 General Options
Should any existing Reply-To: header found in the original message be stripped? If so, this will be done regardless of whether an explict Reply-To: header is added by Mailman or not.
(Edit first_strip_reply_to No → Yes

20/08/11 General Options
Where are replies to list messages directed ? Poster → This list

This solved my problems, that Seamonkey decides to send reply to sender instead of mailing list. But I still see in Sender this <libreoffice-qa-bounces+libreoffice=bielefeldundbuss.de@lists.freedesktop.org>

Thorsten,
is this "But I still see in Sender this
<libreoffice-qa-bounces+libreoffice=bielefeldundbuss.de@lists.freedesktop.org>" expected behaviour?

What's the deal on this bug? Is it resolved or confirmed? It's sat in UNCONFIRMED status for almost a year now.
Comment 5 Rainer Bielefeld Retired 2012-08-05 17:25:54 UTC
At least these "see my sender address as
<libreoffice-qa-bounces+libreoffice=bielefeldundbuss.de@lists.freedesktop.org> effects" still exist for me.
Comment 6 beimaginativeegroup 2012-08-19 16:50:07 UTC
I'm setting this as NEEDINFO.

If you need info ask for info!

See "Absender", that's a strange sender e-mail address

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_address
this is intended behaviour:

"While it is most common for the To and From information in the letter to be the same as on the envelope, such is not always the case. For example, on electronic mailing lists, the information seen in the "From:" header will come from the person who sent the e-mail to the list, while the bounce address will be set to that of the mailing list software, so problems delivering the mailing list messages can be handled correctly."
