Description Vlad 2011-09-19 07:54:26 UTC
In Writer you can't import several images at once with the file selection dialog. You must to add the images one by one, which is clearly an annoy for the usability of the program.

I can't see that as a particular WRITER limitaton, with "LibreOffice 3.4.3 RC2 - WIN7 Home Premium (64bit) German UI [OOO340m1 (Build:302)]" it's impossible to insert multiple pictures using the file dialog (does not matter whether LibO or OS).

A simple workaround (at least with win) is to copy / paste or drag and drop multiple pictures from the WIN File Explorer to the document. So I see a low priority for that enhancement request

Not only pictures are affected. But do we really need a possibility to insert an objects hodgepodge? May be the limitation is intended?
I see this as a WONTFIX issue
Comment 5 Vlad 2012-02-03 08:36:49 UTC
I think that if for some task that may not benefit from multiple selecting may not offer this multiple selection feature, while task that *do* benefit (as inserting pictures or opening multiple documents at once) may have this enabled.

I don't know the especifics of the widget toolkit you're using, but i guess that it has to have a mechanism to enable/disable multiple selection, which may be used for this.

Also I know it's not only matter of adding that capability to the file selector and I see this bug not as a trivial task, but it's needed for being more user-friendly.

I came across this a lot of times per day (I often need to insert 15 pictures in a document for a weekly report) and something I may do in 3 clicks translates in 45 clicks without this.

@ Vlad
As workaround try open picture in picture viewer, select needed pictures, copy and paste into Writer. At least from Gwenview it works.

In Writer we cannot use existing dialog to import multiple images at once. This is something that should work (works in Word like that). There is a workaround to copy / paste or drag and drop multiple pictures from the WIN File Explorer to the document, but, it's not so obvious.

I have additional request. Using Insert-Picture-From File.. we can also insert picture from http://address.com/picture.jpg. But, we should also be able to insert multiple images from multiple addresses, which currently is not possible. I think this could work with some parsing (doesn't work in Word now).

Same problem with Impress (LO 4.1.5.3, Macos 10.9.2)

Maybe could reuse https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35546

In my own opinion, this should be of a much higher priority because it really affects end-user experience. Drag drop multiple images from file explorer works but the order of images is a headache and the order is not according to file name.

I gave it a try in https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/c/core/+/149826 but the images are stacked. Don't know what is expected ...

Stacked images is another problem, Andreas. Look at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=149376

By default I would like to have image after image of course

And would be cool to have some dialog when you try insert many images, to select some table for image layout on the page
