Description Shari 2012-03-16 08:11:33 UTC
What the Auto-filter was replaced with should really be a replacement for the Standard Filter. It has added options to something that the whole point of was quick EASY access.

In my opinion this is a bug, as I'm no longer able to quickly access my data.

Steps to "quickly" drill down data:
3.4 Version with Mouse
1. Click drop down arrow
2. Begin typing what your looking for
3. Select
4. Results

3.5 Version with Mouse
1. Click drop down arrow
2. Tick All to unselect
3. Manually with your mouse scroll through list (which if you have many rows can take a while)
4. Tick to select
5. Click Ok
6. Results

Not only does this add time it adds steps.

Let look at using the keyboard, which for anyone who uses spreadshhets does, easily.

3.4 Version
1. Ctrl-Home
2. Alt-Arrow Down
3. Type what you want
4. Enter

3.5 Version
1-Ctrl-Home
2.Alt-Arrow Down
3.Tab
4.Tab
5.Space bar to deselect all
6.Shift-tab
7.Scroll for your item (page down/arrow down)
8. Space bar to select
9.Tab
10.Enter

Again I appreciate the redesign, I just think it replaced the wrong thing. Quick easy access is what the auto-filter is for.

Add an additional filter, or replace the standard filter with the new UI.

Thanks

I can confirm this behaviour.
Auto-filter GUI looks like and behaves like MS Office 2007-2010(that's ok!) with one major exception - there's no field to type in for fast search in the filter. So, filtering takes more time and needs more user actions.

Hello

I confirm

Standard Filter could be a workaround but unfortunately autocompletion is disabled

Version 4.0 will re-introduce "typeahead" search in autofilter popup, the same way the old version did. Also, in later version of 3.6.x (I forget which micro release exactly) has this.
