Problem description: (1) Help to format pivot tables is lacking (2) I was expecting a right-click menu for formatting a data field. Norhing happens when user right clicks on a data field. Steps to reproduce: 1. create pivot table with data fields 2. in the wizard, right click on a data field Current behavior: there is no formatting sub-menu Expected behavior: there is a formatting sub-menu Platform (if different from the browser): Browser: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:12.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/12.0
This is a feature request.
Confirming and prioritizing. Enhancement: As Kohei mentioned, feature request. Do you have an example of software that does this? I don't think any office suite I've ever worked with has this - although I agree it'd be useful for a handful of power users Lowest: As I said above, Pivot Tables in general are for power users, not a common feature at all for the regular user. Furthermore, you can easily format the numbers (or anything) after you make the table by just selecting the cells and formatting the cells. Thanks for reporting and for helping LibO become a better office suite for all

Recurrent question in forum https://ask.libreoffice.org/search?q=pivot%20table%20format If it were at least possible, do not remove conditional formatting.
Situation with formatting pivot tables has evolved in the upcoming 24.8 version, see Quikee's relevant commits: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/q/owner:quikee@gmail.com+status:merged+mergedbefore:2024-05-01+mergedafter:2024-03-31+pivot Best would be to test with the current 24.8 RC1 or a current master build, and scope out more precisely what this enhancement would look like. What kind of menu would one expect to see when right-clicking a label in the Pivot Table Layout dialog? The UX/Design team was never consulted, CCing them in for opinion.
My take: resolve as WFM (the context menu exists now). We have plenty of other request to improve the pivot table feature. I have personal tags on bug 148100 Clarify the pivot tables dialog instructions label to mention double-clicking to edit the properties of a field item (I wonder if this is WFM now too) bug 131654 Rework the pivot table dialog and provide a preview bug there are many more on the META bug.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #8) > My take: resolve as WFM (the context menu exists now). Which context menu? OP was asking for right-clicking a data field in the Pivot Table Layout dialog. Currently, only a double-click brings up the Data Field dialog (testing with gtk3 VCL plugin). Now I'm wondering what exactly the OP was asking: A) make right-click a (more expected) alternative to the double-click we have in the dialog, to then access the number formatting options under "Displayed Value"? i.e. related to bug bug 148100; or B) allow formatting of individual data fields (i.e. background colour, headers, etc.) from the Data Field dialog? If it is (A), I think it's fair enough to want to improve the UX and accessibility of the dialog. I remember it took me a while to understand that I needed to double-click a data field to see more options. If it is (B), I don't see how it would be good UX to format data fields individually in this way. A redesign like in the bug 131654 Heiko mentioned might be a better opportunity to allow whole-table styling in the dialog (like our current AutoFormats) while designing a Pivot Table. In any case, this request needs clarifying.
The topic was on the agenda of the design meeting. The proposed context menu sounds like a good hint for the available functions. It would contain "Modify (double-click)" and "Delete (Del)".
