Description rhubarbpieguy 2012-09-20 21:44:24 UTC
Problem description:
When attempting to open a file in the / directory I receive the following:

"The folder contents could not be displayed"

"Operation not supported"

Fortunately, clicking OK allows the file to be opened so the folder contents CAN be displayed and the operation IS supported. It's an incorrect nag screen.

Steps to reproduce:
1. ....File/Open file in / directory.
2. ....
3. ....

Current behavior:Nag screen appears.

Expected behavior:Nag screen should NOT appear.

Platform (if different from the browser):

Browser: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.10.289 Version/12.01

I couldn't reproduced this on master (3.7.0.0.alpha+) or 3.5 on openSUSE 12.2.

Could you please give exact steps to reproduce, as it's not clear at what point the error appears (when you navigate to /, or when you open the file?).

File/Open produces the error. I don't have to navigate to a directory
or choose a file. As soon as I choose File/Open the screen appears.

I thought this was perhaps due to my My Documents path in Tools/Options
as I have it set to /. But that's apparently not it as I reset it to
/Data, exited and restarted LibreOffice with the same error. I have
noticed that upon rebooting my box I can open a / file once without the
error. But after the initial opening the screen appears. However, I
just tried that without success.

It's frustrating when things work differently on different boxes. If my
explanation is unclear or there's something else you'd like me to test
I'll be happy to help.

This is in addition to my earlier reply. I loaded LibreOffice 3.6.1 and
encounter the same problem. I nuked my .libreoffice preferences and
used those generated with the load. File/Open immediately generated the
nag screen. I should mention my OS is linuxfromscratch. However, I've
run LFS since 2002 and the problem seems to have only recently begun.
I'm running 3.5.6.2 as the 3.6 series seems to have some problems with
dates and conditional formatting.

I think the problem may be the home directory. If I use a password with / as a home directory (root:x:0:0:root:/:/bin/bash) I receive the message. I realize it's popular to use root root or a non-root user password with a non-root home directory, but that's not my choice. Linux permits my password and it'd be preferable if LibreOffice wouldn't generate an incorrect message.

I don't remember in which release the message first appeared, but it's recent as I've used LibreOffice for years without an error message.

I loaded OpenOffice 3.4.1 and I can open files without incident. I don't mention this as an OpenOffice vs LibreOffice thing.

It's just that I can't pinpoint the LibreOffice release in which the problem began. However, LibreOffice never presented the error until this year and no other programs offend. The OpenOffice release was in 08/12 and it works as I remember LibreOffice used to.
