Example data showing no string labels are possible on bubble chart axis

Bubble charts allows to display data having 3 dimensions, where the first two are used to place the bubble in a X,Y grid and the third one to size the bubble itself.

However it works only when X and Y are numerical values, while it doesn't work instead when they are strings (useful for categorized data, where the X and Y dimensions are categories rather than continuous values).
This is an odd behaviour as most other type of charts are able to place strings on their axis.

Here is an example of what I'd like to achieve: http://static.ipaditalia.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/google_tablet_research_locations.jpg

I attach some example data.

Thank you ;-)

Confirmed.

Win 7 64-bit Version: 4.4.0.0.alpha1+
Build ID: 8b21b5cbe78945b27525b4ce78ae3d981f90590f
TinderBox: Win-x86@39, Branch:master, Time: 2014-11-06_03:55:51

I can confirm this with LOo Version: 5.0.2.2 (x64)
Build-ID: 37b43f919e4de5eeaca9b9755ed688758a8251fe
Gebietsschema: de-DE (de_DE).

If I have names in the first column and select the column as label for axis, just numbers shown on axis.

Bug still present as LibreOffice 5.2.2.2 (Linux 64 bit in my case, but OS independent)

Nope, we consistently get about 25% of the bugs as "silently fixed".

A quick way to test on Linux without installing anything is AppImage packages: http://libreoffice.soluzioniopen.com/

Bug still present Version: 6.3.2.2

@Buovjaga: I am strongly suspecting the 25% "silently fixed" bugs are those where.. the reporter remains "silent" :-|

You did not understand: I was referring to the rate of reports that can be verifiably closed as WORKSFORME. This was observed when methodically going through mass-pinged report batches in the past, retesting everything. It has nothing to do with a reporter NOT testing the bug.

Dear Antonello,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa

Thank you for helping us make LibreOffice even better for everyone!
