Description saahleinad 2013-01-28 20:03:11 UTC
Problem description:

Adding Language support for other languages in LibreOffice is VERY easy on Ubuntu OS.
-> Via the Ubuntu OS Language Support Settings.

PLEASE make this information clear to those (non-techie) Ubuntu users. It took me (a non-techie user) TOO LONG to find this!

I actually installed OpenOffice in German to add Spellcheck functionality to my Ubuntu OS, before finding out LibreOffice Language Availability is directly accessible in the System Settings (I know, I am VERY non-techie).

This functionality is truly AWESOME, but the learning curve is TOO STEEP if you plan to target a large audience of time-minded non-techie, noobish users like me. I am an open-source enthusiast and hope by this contribution I can do all the other non-techies using LibreOffice on Ubuntu a favor.

SUGGESTION: Add a simple text in LibreOffice reminding the User he can also add Language-Functionality via the OS System Setting (in Ubuntu).

Steps to reproduce:
1. try being a noob
2. try adding German Spellchecking to LibreOffice via LibreOffice
3. switch to OOo because they have built-in Language functionality in their installer
4. scratch your head, and admire your noobishness after finding out how to actually solve your problem.

5. SUGGESTION: Add a simple text in LibreOffice reminding the User he can also add Language-Functionality via the OS System Setting (in Ubuntu).

Current behavior:

Expected behavior:

Operating System: Ubuntu
Version: 3.6.0.2 rc

As this enhancement request is Ubuntu issue I will mark this one as NOTOURBUG and add Canonical employee for any additional comments.

Do not hesitate to reopen in case of mistriage.

Also please consider posting this tip on some Ubuntu forums and/or http://ask.libreoffice.org/ as Bugzilla is not a best place for support Q&A.
