Created attachment 75599 [details] Correct count Hi, the number of selected words that is displayed at the bottom of the screen is sometimes erroneous. As shown on the 2 attached screen shots, when the selected word (at least part of it) contains the *first* letter of a paragraph with the style 'title', the selected word count is wrong.

Thanks for reporting! I can reproduce this behavior using Linux Mint 14 x64 with LibreOffice Version 4.1.0.0.alpha0+ (Build ID: 5fcb553c862d407aadb0320925723d3c2f70bfe) (build yesterday). How to reproduce: * Open writer * Insert a bullet (shift+F12) Current behavior: In status bar you can see there "Words (Character) 1 (1)" Expected behavior: nothing typed yet -> "Words (Character) 0 (0)" * Type a word * Select first character of word Current behavior: Selected: 2 (2) ...? What's the number between brackets? Kind regards, Joren

The issue is still in version 4.1.1.2 (Fr) Windows 7 (Fr) The erroneous values displayed are a bit changed because now LO display the number of words and characters selected. In the previously attached screen shot we now have: 2 words, 2 characters selected (in first sample) --> wrong 1 words, 1 characters selected (in second sample) --> correct
Word and character count include numbering symbols. See issues 51908 and 50141.

Can confirm this bug is still present in Ubuntu. Version: 5.4.5.1 Build ID: 1:5.4.5-0ubuntu0.17.10.4
As LO-Help explains, bullets are counted as one word [1]. So I think the bugsummary should be more precise, because it's about counting of selections. Here I agree, that it is still wrong or at least not clear to the user. [1] https://help.libreoffice.org/6.3/en-US/text/swriter/guide/words_count.html?DbPAR=WRITER#bm_id3149686
(In reply to Dieter from comment #15) > As LO-Help explains, bullets are counted as one word [1]. > https://help.libreoffice.org/6.3/en-US/text/swriter/guide/words_count. > html?DbPAR=WRITER#bm_id3149686 I've created bug 140313 for the selection issue. I think we can close this bug, because everything works at it is described in LO Help. Please feel free to change it back to new with a short reasoning, if you disagree.
