Sorry, my English is not perfect. 4.0.3.3. portable release + 3.6.6. Win32 release. With Windows XP Home SP3, printer: Canon Prixma MP190. I have an A4 printer, and because of Writer does not support printing more than 1 side to 1 side, I want to print to the top half of A4 pages, than I reverse the paper, and print to the new top half (previous bottom half) to the pages. So I set the page settings to A5. I tried all variations (210mm*148mm, 148mm*210mm, standing/laying: all the 4 possibility), the printer always printed standing pages. I can print A5 page to an A4 paper correctly only when the orientation of letters is the same as A4 to A4 standing, and not rotated with ¼ circle. But I want to see standing A5 page on my monitor, and print lying A5 pages to the top half of A4 pages, naturally with rotated letter orientation. At now, I must cut the paper before the printing, and I must put the paper to the printer in rotated. If I put the A5 paper to the printer without rotation, as A4, I can print only lying A5 pages with 210 mm line width, but I want to print standing page to lying paper, with 148 mm line width, and 210 mm height. I thought the standing/lying switch control the letter orientation: at standing, not rotated, at lying, rotated with ¼ circle: when I see a standing page on my monitor, Writer prints lying pages, and opposite. So I thought for example, if I set the page to 300 mm * 200 mm, this is a lying page, but I can set standing/lying switch. At not, if I set this switch, the measures exchanges so: will be 200 mm * 300 mm. I tried in both order: setting measures, setting switch, and in reversed order. I tried all the 4 possibilities.
I tried the following: 1. Set the page to A5; 2. Opened the Print Dialog; 3. On the Page Layout tab set the Pages per sheet to 2; 4. You should be fine. If you only have one A5 page and want two on one A4, on the General tab under Range and copies write: 1,1 in the pages box. Does it work for you?
(In reply to comment #1) This must work, but for example: I have an A4 paper, I do not want to cut this, and I have a short text, only 1 A5 side. If I want to print this with as staying A5 (for example, 130 mm line width, and 180 mm height), I want to print this to the top half of the A4 paper, I can do it only when I set the direction of the text to vertical: I see rotated text on the diaplay. OK, I must insert a lot of empty lines, or page break, and I can print this. This is not a major problem, thus I set the importance low/minor. So, please set the state to confirmed (perhps with setting lowest/enhancement).
I like to print multiple pages on A4. The menu box tells me that it will print two pages per sheet side by side, but the program does not do this. Instead it prints them vertically above each other and ignores its own instruction to print "right to left then down". I had no trouble with Libre Office 3 in this respect
WORKSFORME OS X 10.9.4, LO 4.3.0.3. Just printed two pages to a single page, so this might have been fixed in the meantime. I did not set the page to A5. All I did was, what gareth wrote in Comment 3: Print > in print dialogue select "layout" section > there set pages per sheet to 2. Done.
