I was using WordPerfect and it provides the PRECISE location (row/col pos) of the cursor at the text, displayed in the bottom Status Bar, and a feature to move to a precise location (e.g. like for printing checks); I can't get the "precise position" out of the rulers, all be it close. These feature would be useful, for say, like printing bank checks, and filling out forms, etc. The FRAME feature manage to accomplish this, but it is a daunting task and time-consuming using the FRAME feature for this. Clifton Operating System: openSUSE Version: 3.6.0.1 rc
Looks like a valid enhancement request to me. I changed the title a bit, so it is more clear. @Developer who'll work on this feature: I think passing via the ux-advice mailing list will be useful :-). Kind regards, Joren
** Please read this message in its entirety before responding ** To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year. To do so: 1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/ 2. Test your bug 3. Leave a comment with your results. 4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo"; 4b. I did write this out as a bug; it was written out as a request, and so for I yet to see it implentment. It's a request to have LibreOffice do (at least in WRITER) what Wordperfect has been doing since the that 1980's and still does. For Forms, Bank Checks, etc., it is necessary to know the precise location of where the cursor is and the characters will appear on the papers.
Let me correct my bad typos I made in the previous comment, please: I did NOT write this out as a bug; it was written out as a request, and so FAR I HAVE yet to see it implemented. It's a request to have LibreOffice do (at least in WRITER) what Wordperfect has been doing since the that 1980's and still does. For Forms, Bank Checks, etc., it is necessary to know the precise location of where the cursor is and the characters will appear on the papers. I would like to further add, as the responder pointed out, perhaps we need the ability to "advance" to a particular position (he termed it as "Cell") like WordPerfect (and MS Word) has had these past few decades ;) Thanks!
comment #1 and comment #4 --> enhancement.
