Description fuer_kommentare 2013-07-25 16:13:16 UTC
Problem description: The attached .pptx PowerPoint slides are displayed almost correctly, but there are some things not fully correct. Meaning the import filter still is not perfect.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Load the slides.
2. Press F5 to go to full screen
3. Scroll through
4. You will see what is wrong (font size, misplaced arrows, etc)

Current behavior: Not fully correct displayed. On MS PP it looks correct.

Expected behavior: Correct displayed. ;)
Operating System: All
Version: 4.1.0.4 release

Addes URL, file is to large for Bugzilla...
Comment 2 ign_christian 2013-07-26 03:32:11 UTC
Wow..very big file :) Could you simplified the file with inserting problematic slides only?

Have you tried disabling h/w acceleration or anti-aliasing? Your OS?
Comment 3 fuer_kommentare 2013-07-26 07:21:51 UTC
@ign_christian, I can't simplify them, because I don't have MS PP. And if I simplify them with LO they might get broken. The slides come from a public available lecture directory from my university. I saw them only in real-life with PowerPoint and Beamer on a wall and on my own laptop screen with LO. That's why I know they are not correct in LO.

Sorry, Can't say more, becaue I don't know more. Hope you can still use it to improve filters.

It's ok I just say that since currently I'm online using slow connection :)
Btw I just do testing, some dev that will do improving.

You forgot those questions.
Perhaps you haven't know yet to disable those features:
Menu: Tools > Options... > LibreOffice 'View' -> Graphics output

Ehm..you attach 5 pptx files on a compressed file, each has many slides. It would take days to identify the problems ;)

We'll appreciate if you could list the problems per file/slide :-)

Disabling HW accelleration did not change anything.

All the following things appear more often in several of the files, but I picked the places where it's best visible. Also, often when double clicking on the objects that are wrong I get an "General OLE error" (not sure if exact this in english, I have the German version "Allgemeiner OLE Fehler").

"Nonlinear Optics.pptx":
- slide 8: One of the biggest errors. There's a huge "E" overlapping everything. Seems to be a font size problem.

- slide 9. There are vector arrows above some letters. In LO they are shifted to the top right some distance. This happens on other slides, too.

- Not sure on this one, could be intended by the author! Slide 24, there is "hidden text" (white text on white background). But maybe the author decided to hide it this way.

File "Atomic_transitions_Lasers1":
- slide 29: in the lower formula I see a big filled black circle. This should be an "h-bar" (reduced Planck constant)

File "Optical switching.pptx":
- slide 49: The wave should be animated, in LO it's static however.

In all files, but best visible in "Beam Optics.pptx":
- font size seems to be to large. In the original lecture everything was projected easily readable on the wall. But in LO some text goes over the edge or over the "background design" at the bottom where it should not go.

Lets focus only on problems you explained, because that's too much :)

Confirmed. Some bugs also reported about that.

> "Nonlinear Optics.pptx":
> - slide 8: One of the biggest errors. There's a huge "E" overlapping
> everything. Seems to be a font size problem.
Confirmed. I don't from where that "E" came from, other contents in slide 8 is allright if we remove the "E".

> - slide 9. There are vector arrows above some letters. In LO they are
> shifted to the top right some distance. This happens on other slides, too.
Confirmed, that arrows shouldn't be there. I also saw that in the center equation should be bordered with pink lines, but that lines not there (perhaps related to Bug 63704).

> - Not sure on this one, could be intended by the author! Slide 24, there is

No issue with that. But I saw the equation should be bordered with blue lines (just like the problem on slide 9 above).

> File "Atomic_transitions_Lasers1":
> - slide 29: in the lower formula I see a big filled black circle. This

Confirmed (see Bug 34706 with PPT, Bug 51002). Another issues:
- Font size in left & right side of the formula is smaller than in top & below.
- Formula should be bordered with purple lines (like problems in previous file above) & filled with white color background.

> File "Optical switching.pptx":
> - slide 49: The wave should be animated, in LO it's static however.
Confirmed. LO only interprets those objects with 'Start : With previous' animation.

I couldn't see font size problem on the file. But I also saw general background problem (on bottom left) with wrong background color hatchings, should be colored with blue background.

Tested on LO 4.0.5.1 & PPV 14 (Win7 32bit)

Just wanted to say: In LO4.2 the same display errors are still happening.
Comment 9 fuer_kommentare 2014-07-30 13:23:52 UTC
4.3 still has most of the errors, but it's getting better in details (font size on regular text, page transitions). But wrongly positioned vector arrows and the large "E" are still there.

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (5.0.0.5 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:

1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.

4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

The file link does not work anymore so we cannot retest!

Please give a new link. Max attachment size in BZ is now 10 megabytes.

Set to NEEDINFO.
Change back to NEW, if the problem persists. Change to RESOLVED WORKSFORME, if the problems went away.
