Problem description: Hi, Impress currently has no vertical alignment options in text boxes. It currently aligns the text to center vertically. Vertical alignment feature came to Calc by 4.1(align to top, align to center vertically, align to bottom) release, and will be very nice to have in Impress too. Expected behavior: Having vertical alignment controls in Impress Operating System: All Version: 4.1.0.4 release
This feature is already available - You must right click the border of the text box then go down to alignment, you'll see 6 options which should meet your needs of horizontal and vertical alignment :)
(In reply to comment #1) Hi Joel, > This feature is already available - > > You must right click the border of the text box then go down to alignment, > you'll see 6 options which should meet your needs of horizontal and vertical > alignment :) That is not the same thing, that alignment was the text boxes alignment not text's alignment. That allings the text box over the slide, not the text inside the text box. Regards, Zeki
Also possible: Right click on text Click on text.... Click Text tab Select your anchor position (9 options available which handle vertical and horizontal placement)
Hm.. however we could make this more discoverable by adding the align top, center, bottom to the toolbar (and main menu) in the same way as it is in calc. I think this is a valid request for an enhancement and could be a nice easy hack too.
Requesting UX input then
(In reply to comment #5) > Requesting UX input then Status should be new or Unconfirmed? Regards, zeki
It should be UNCONFIRMED for now - awaiting UX advice. Personally I would mark it as WONTFIX but we can wait for their input. Just because Draw/Impress work different - the feature is there and quite functional
UX input: Toolbar buttons for aligning the text vertically like those in Calc would be useful indeed, not just for discoverability, but also for quick access. A button for the Text dialog in the Formatting toolbar would be useful as well -- currently, the dialog is quite undiscoverable. Also, the dialog should be renamed to "Text Frame" or "Text Box" -- "Text" is vague and misleading.
The information has been provided, indeed sounds like a good idea. Might even become an easy hack, marking as proposedEasyHack for now.
proposedEasyHack was changed to needsDevEval quite some time ago :) Changing the whiteboard status. This was done to avoid issues with querying where "Easyhack" would return both proposed and actual easy hacks.

I think we already have these... https://i.imgur.com/FYYKjGt.png > A button for the Text dialog in the Formatting toolbar would be useful as > well -- currently, the dialog is quite undiscoverable. Do you mean "Text Attributes..." from the Format | Text Box and Shape submenu? Also exists. But - perhaps you're suggesting putting all of these on the toolbars by default?
Back in OOo 3.3, we had the horizontal alignment options pop up in the toolbar while editing a text box, so I can see how it seemed lacking back then. Since at least LO 5.2.0.4, we have the three vertical alignment options in: - the Properties sidebar, automatically visible with the default UI - Format > Align text menu - the View > Toolbars > Text formatting sidebar too, if you want to make them always visible. That's plenty, and I don't think there's a need to add to the default toolbar.
