Description Richard 2013-08-16 02:52:56 UTC
Problem description: after resize app window, spreadsheet fails to fill window. First noted in the 4.0.x series but just ignored it. I have observed this in 4.0.3, 4.0.4, and 4.1.0. Now back to using 3.6.7 which seems to only get better. Wonderful new features in 4.x.x series but this is annoying.

Steps to reproduce:
1. With Calc open with document, grab a corner and resize the window of the application.

2. There is an empty margin that refuses to fill the newly resized window.

3. ....

Current behavior: as above, empty space instead of filling the new window size with the current spreadsheet

Expected behavior: The resized window should be filled with the current spreadsheet

Operating System: Linux (Other)
Version: 4.0.3.3 release
Last worked in: 3.6.7.2 rc

I can confirm and expand, as I think I am having the exact same issue. I see this with Calc, Word, Draw, Start Center. It started as soon as I installed LibreOffice-4.1.1. (Unlike the bug author, I did not have this problem with LibreOffice-4.0.4.) It is 100% repeatable, but only when resizing the window via upper left, lower left, or upper right corners. Resize using lower right corner is OK - LibreOffice redraws correctly inside the newly sized window in that case.

I think this is the same problem as bug #46734 (which was closed because the author no longer had the PC with the issue).

I see this on 2 of 2 PCs, with very different hardware, but the same OS. Platform is Slackware Linux 14.0, desktop environment (DE) is Xfce 4.10. I note that #46734 was also Xfce, although it was older. (No DE was stated for this report #68168.)

Thanks for the confirmation. I also use Xfce4 on most everything and didn't even think to mention it. :( Perhaps there is an Xfce problem or with some parameter?

Just tried it on LibO-4.1.1.2 on the Win7 work computer and find no redraw problem. Traveling at the moment. Will boot my pendrive Wheezy and give it a try in 4.1.1.2.

Thanks for the workaround tip. I'll try that out as well on 4.1.1.2.
Comment 3 Richard 2013-09-04 04:42:48 UTC
Sucess in Windows 7 with LibO-4.1.1.2.
No problem at all resizing the windows, no matter where I pulled.

So, this is a problem mainly in the 4.0.x series.

Really enjoying the 4.1.1-2 on Wheezy with Xfce4.8
and on SolydX-32 with Xfce4.10.
Comment 4 Richard 2013-09-04 04:46:49 UTC
This seems to be a problem mainly in the 4.0.x(some reported) & 4.1.0 series,
but appears to be resolved in 4.1.1.2.

Negative. I am running 4.1.1.2 (as identified in Help>About), and this is where I first started seeing the problem. The version I am using is called 4.1.1 on the download page, so that is what I called it - sorry for the confusion. I skipped 4.1.0, and upgraded from 4.0.4 to 4.1.1.

When I get a chance I will try it on my Xubuntu which has a different Xfce version.
Comment 6 Richard 2013-09-05 00:17:13 UTC
Ahh, sorry to hear that. I'm using Xfce-4.8 from Wheezy.
Don't have and install with Xfce-4.10.
Will install LinuxMint w/4.10 and see how that goes.

I am using the download from the DocumentFoundation and not the distros version.

Confirmed: Same problem on Xubuntu-12.04, which uses Xfce-4.8.6. Resizing a LibreOffice-4.1.1 window using any corner except lower right really messes up the user interface.

You can recover by 'shading' (roll-up) and 'unshading' the window.

Minimize and then restore does NOT fix it.

Thanks for the workaround.
Beats restarting LibO.

OK, I found the problem - it was my fault. I was over-agressive in removing unwanted sub-packages. The problem I was seeing is the result of my not installing the "gnome-integration" sub-package. With that gnome-integration sub-package replaced, window resizing works fine. Happy with LibreOffice-4.1.1 now.

I don't know if this applies to you... Did you skip or remove sub-packages? The gnome-integration package includes libraries in /opt/libreoffice4.1/program, including gnome-open-url and libqstart_gtklo.so to name 2, in case you need to check.

The full name (in the Linux RPM distribution) is: libobasis4.1-gnome-integration-4.1.1.2-2.i586.rpm
Comment 10 Richard 2013-09-05 18:42:44 UTC
Good to know. Perhaps it can be fixed in the 4.0.x line.

As mentioned, I always download the*.deb from the Document Foundation so
the fix should be in all the distros, real soon now.
Thanks for the follow up.

Comment 11 Joel Madero 2013-11-16 03:08:57 UTC
due to comment 7 I am closing this as NOTABUG - we don't recommend users install from the debian package from libreoffice.org (instead install via ppa). The package on libreoffice.org is not the same as what ends up in the ppa and can cause conflicts, additionally it doesn't include everything that the ppa version has.

Thanks for the update from comment 7
