Hi, the shortcut to display non printing char is Ctrl+F10. I can't reproduce under Ubuntu 13.10. Please check that under Tools > Options > Writer > Formatting Aids, you have them checked. I'm closing the bug for the moment, please reopen if this is still an issue for you - Sophie
