PDF import dialog proposal

The current state is that PDF files are imported into Draw by default and user can explicitly select which program to use (Writer, Impress, Draw). But this selection is made via the file type list which is uncomfortable (there are many file formats).

Please consider to use a more comfortable way. For example: When an user opens a PDF file it displays a dialog with the available programs to use for import. See the attachment.

PDF import is supported in Draw only.

It's not true. If you scroll the type list in the open dialog, you'll see the option to open in Impress\Writer.

Hmm, what do you mean (screenshot please)? I can't see it in 4.1.3 on Windows.

Screenshot attached. You can see the option (highlighted) to open pdf in writer. Same for Impress.

Thanks. But it is working just with hybrid PDFs, not importing any PDF content?

OK, seems I learned something new today. Thanks a lot!
Seems this is a valid enhancement request in that case. Set status as you self fit.

@Lukas Jelinek: Hi,
In my opinion there is a very good reason why pdf opens in Draw by default: Import to Writer doesn't give you too much, because currently the text imported in text boxes, not as paragraph text. And import into Impress is good only when you want to turn a pdf into a presentation, not when you just want to open that file. Also showing a dialog every time the user tries to open pdf might be annoying for many people. So at least please add to your proposal some way to disable it. It might be a checkbox with 'Remember my decision' or 'Don't annoy me again'.

This proposal might be relevant for other formats as well. For example: LO opens html in Writer\Web by default, but there is also a special filter for Calc, which reads a table from html and turns it into a spreadsheet. What do you think?

Good ideas! I suggest to implement these things:
1) The application selection dialog as described in my original issue.
2) The "Remember my decision" checkbox inside this dialog.
3) A new configuration item to get the possibility to change its behavior (to select the default or to leave it undefined which will cause the dialog to display).
4) To consider some more formats to apply the same.
5) Possibly to group these formats separately from the app-related grouping in the list.
