Description Chris Shaw 2013-11-29 12:10:14 UTC
Problem description:

Steps to reproduce:
1. .... Type a sentence into a cell
2. .... Double click and hold on the first word in the edit box
3. .... Drag the mouse over the rest of the sentence

Current behavior:
Only first word stays selected

Expected behavior:
As mouse moves over them, subsequent words are selected until whole sentence is selected

Operating System: Mac OS X
Version: unspecified

To select a sentence in the input box, you have to click 3 times on it. The same in the cell. 2 clicks = a word, 3 clicks = sentence.
I'm closing this issue, if I misunderstand what you're searching for, please reopen it. Sophie

Triple-clicking to select the sentence works fine, but double-clicking and dragging is a quick way to select several words without accurate cursor placement. It works in LibreOffice Write, Excel, plus most other Windows and OSX software.

Works well in Windows.
Comment 4 Chris Shaw 2013-11-30 16:16:09 UTC
Odd. For me it works in Writer under OS X 10.9 and Windows 8.1, but doesn't work in Calc under the same OSs

Video illustrating expected behaviour in Writer and bug in Calc

Just so we're sure we're all talking about the same thing, this video shows:

Expected behaviour (in Writer)
Selection expands as the mouse drags, snapping to word boundaries

Bug behaviour (in Calc)
Selection remains just on the initial word selected

This issue is still present, and it's also an issue on Windows as reported previously. Setting OS to all to increase visibility.

The behavior is also present in Impress, so I'm expanding the scope of the bug

Finally this issue was present in 3.3.0, so inherited from OOo

But you should be able to selects multiple words by double clicking and dragging, without selecting the whole sentence. This works in LibreOffice Writer but not Calc. Please do not close the issue.

Also, why has your post converted my link into spam????
