Description Ryan Lovett 2013-12-31 06:56:50 UTC
MacDraft was a Mac CAD program available on pre Mac OS X systems.

I created a lot of files on it ages ago and would now like to read them on my Linux machine. The application is now available on OS X:

Do you have any idea if there is a spec of the file format? If there is not, are you willing to supply files for reverse engineering (provided someone wants to do it)?

I couldn't find a spec, but I am willing to supply files for reverse
engineering. One big problem is that I have what I know are old Mac drawing
files, but I don't know which are MacDraw, MacDraft, and Deneba Canvas
format. I have started to group my old files together by their magic
numbers.

Comment 3 osnola 2014-01-02 09:16:51 UTC
Hello,
I do plan in some near future to add at least MacDraw and MacPaint to the list of formats that libmwaw can convert, so having old files will be helpful...

Concerning MacDraft, I will probably look if I can create a filter for the pre OSX files in some very far future (at least, if nobody creates a filter for it before).

Unfortunately, as I suspect that you will need to wait a long time before you can open your files in LibreOffice, if you still have access to MacDraft for MacClassic, one painful solution is to virtualize the Mac Classic OS ( using MiniVMac: for MacOS1-7, SheepShaver, ... ), then install MacDraft and convert your documents....

Thanks very much. libmwaw's support for WriteNow enabled me to open all of
my old WriteNow (v3/v4?) documents!

I went looking for an old BasiliskII disk image I created ages ago but
haven't found it. I still have the ROMs so I think I'll recreate one not
for the conversion necessarily (since I don't think the MacD's can export
to any other vector format) but so that I can identify the file types.
