When clicking on the "apply format" tool, the mouse pointer turns into an ugly shape.
Anyway, it doesn't disturb the "apply format" effect ; it is just not easy to select the target cells.

Hi eudlauk,

It changes into a paint bucket icon for me. What does it turn into for you?
Comment 2 eudlauk 2014-06-16 12:56:46 UTC
Hi Jay,

Eventually, it's turned back to the correct shape (paint bucket),
because I had had to reinstall the OS.

N.B. : Indeed, the reason of the reinstallation is an other issue : with
Cinamon, I has lost the graphic interface several times ; the consoles
(<Ctrl><Alt><Fn>) work properly, but not the X server or any layer
above, I suppose. Last time, the connexion window turned to a new style
(almost blue background) and when I tried to modify the parameters with
the options button (left bottom corner), I managed to get a black screen
wit only the white mouse pointer. Not shining at linux (and any other
OS besides), I saved my data and reinstalled from DVD.
Do you think it is a valuable issue to write on in forum or not ?

Anyhow, thank you for the mail, it's good not to feel lonely with
computer bothers.

CU, Eud.

Hi Eudlauk,

Yes i've had quite a few problems with Mate on Linux Mint and had sent in bug reports to various applications, when the real problem is with the desktop environment not doing things it is supposed to.

Hi Jay,

I admit xfce desktop is a bit coarse and less user-friendly than mate or
cinnamon, but it behaves safely (since now :^/).
Unfortunately, I discovered, after the whole re-installation, that there
is a way to restore the graphic interface with a console command. Well,
it's embarrassing, I have got to search the solution again, 'cos I don't
have noticed it.
Anyway, do I have to close myself the issue or somebody already did it
for me (shame : I am not used to frequenting forums) ?

Good day Jay.

Hi Eudlauk,

Yes i have also found xfce more compatible that cinammon and mate and it has really gotten good in its latest version and it is likely that i will switch to it soon. Yes linux is a learning experience and what i do is note down all the problems i've encountered, so that i can always go back to those notes if it happens again. :)

I have already closed the bug report since i knew it was your desktop environment and not libreoffice. :)

Take care

Hi Jay,

you are very impressive : job's already done ! You're likely more
organized and efficient than me. About xfce, shame for the look'n'feel,
compared to gnome, but it gets rid of annoying or critical issues.

Hail from France (/where not everything's rotten yet, but hush ! Don't
tell I told you/) : have a nice day and see you for an other bug report,
who knows...

Hi Eudlauk,

About xfce, i find its look'n'feel great for the audience its targetting, as it takes up less resources than most other desktops, its quite well supported by applications, and quite suitable for converting old XP machines to. I think Xubuntu and Linux Mint XFCE do a good job at making it look'n'feel good.

You must be happy today as France won its World Cup game today. Look forward to seeing more of your bugs.

Hi Jay,
I think I am going to install Linux Mint Cinnamon on an other hard drive
to push on testing graphic interface reliability / inconsistency ; with
hardware configuration and screenshots, it may be usefull to debug Gnome
sources (for those who are able, not me). Gotta plan this ! One of these
days...

Concerning soccer, well hu, how to say, I don't mind the bollocksam not
interested in : not any victory won't decrease taxes I pay. More than
that, French football players are recruited for their brawns, not their
brain (remember their behavior during South Africa World Cup : all sons
of DSK, contempt and kinky sex). Last, but not least, the cliché of fans
slumped with beer cans and peanuts is realistic ! I am quite sad to see
that the most popular sport worldwide produces so many selfish people.
We've been brushing against idiocraty for decades.

I hope I haven't offend you with my opinion abut soccer.

Anyway, I have missions today ! Finding cheap strawberries for jam and a
water tank for the garden, shopping and checking bees hives, going off
on reconnaissance of mountain bike paths. Nothing to deal with computers.

So, you can rely on me to warn on any issue.

Good day, Jay.

Hi Eudlauk,

Good luck with the Cinammon testing, but do give Mint XFCE a go.

About soccer, i'm not interested at all with it, and wouldnt waste 2 hours of my life watching people kick around a ball, and then brag about who won or lost with friends. But i guess everyone their own choices of what they like and dont. :)

Enjoy the shopping and bike riding.
