Problem description: This is not a bug, but an enhancement request. After installing the two Open ClipArt modules and attempting to insert pictures from the "Gallery", I noticed that there is a very large number of pictures to choose from, but no way to quickly and easily search for ClipArt on a particular subject. This enhancement request would probably also affect all of the other sub-projects such as Calc, Presentation, Base, etc. because of the LibreOffice modular nature. Sounds like a reasonable request: Status -> NEW UX will want to make some suggestions on how this search could look, so Component -> ux-advise.
We're replacing our use of the 'ux-advise' component with a keyword: Component -> LibreOffice Add Keyword: needsUXEval [NinjaEdit]
That is definitely a needed feature. In the proposal for a rework of this deck [1] we added a filter (aka search) input. Initial component was Writer, but the change would be needed for all modules. The gallery is paramount for Draw it's maybe better hosted there. [1] https://user-prompt.com/de/libreoffice-design-session-shapes/

Created attachment 157163 [details] Idea to put a search box in red, in the gallery tool for Draw Added search box as example on the gallery
Please add keyword 'needsUXEval' and CC 'libreoffice-ux-advise@lists.freedesktop.org' if input from UX is needed.

Would be definitely a good feature. I would add the search instead of add new theme, but anyway first make it available. Search at all installed galleries and in addition search in online would be great.

routing back through UX Advise, have discussed a search feature for shapes and the gallery, e.g. https://design.blog.documentfoundation.org/2015/04/02/libreoffice-design-session-shapes/ in the past, but we need a solid design worked out for a search by description in a content panel or additional widget on the Sidebar Gallery deck. Also needed because any such search scheme would need to be well scoped to allow extension providers to describe their graphics.
There is no way to rename the content (it's taken from the file name) nor the items are reasonably named (and translation is missing, see bug 90864). The Gallery content is not located in the user space and cannot be modified therefore, see bug 131529. Before we ponder over a (desirable) search function we have to rework the foundation.
(In reply to Heiko Tietze from comment #11) > Before we ponder over a (desirable) search function we have to rework the > foundation. Don't see translation of core gallery content as an immediate issue, for example we don't translate Unicode (no one does). And if implemented correctly (addressing bug 131529), extensions for gallery would be localized for search by the authors providing them in the languages they choose.
(In reply to V Stuart Foote from comment #12) > Don't see translation of core gallery content as an immediate issue... I mean that as a consequence of the naming. If we assign a variable name to the Gallery objects we could also provide translations. OTOH, if the Gallery comes from the extension all work needs to be done externally, which is rather unlikely.
Oliver Specht committed a patch related to this issue. It has been pushed to "master": https://git.libreoffice.org/core/commit/09c6204b6309321aa25c542f918fde9f5f3f7fe2 tdf#81880 Search the Gallery It will be available in 24.8.0. The patch should be included in the daily builds available at https://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/ in the next 24-48 hours. More information about daily builds can be found at: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Testing_Daily_Builds Affected users are encouraged to test the fix and report feedback.
Can this be closed as fixed now?
I added it to the release notes: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/index.php?title=ReleaseNotes%2F24.8&type=revision&diff=754884&oldid=754879 @Oliver, ping to close this if nothing else is coming? We can open follow-up tickets if needed.
Issue can be closed.
(In reply to Oliver Specht (CIB) from comment #17) > Issue can be closed. It is best that the fixer closes it: https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Bugzilla/Fields/Status/RESOLVED#FIXED
