Description FABIO AUGUSTO 2014-08-14 16:44:29 UTC
Hi all,

I'm trying change my RTF documents replacing the embedded images to linked images using LO Writer 3.5.3.2, in order to reduce the file size.

I insert the images as Insert / Picture / From File... , choose the img http address and checked the "Link" option. In this moment a new image is added and a link is shown in the picture properties.

But when I close and reopen the same RTF file, this image is shown as a embedded image missing the link.

Is it a bug? With LO verssion? With RTF format? ...?

Could you please help?

ZIP containing RTFs linking and embedding the same image under LOv4304

Related forum thread: http://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/38009/

Although this report has been self-confirmed I am likewise confirming under v4.3.0.4 Build ID: 62ad5818884a2fc2e5780dd45466868d41009ec0 and it seems to have been a problem since at least v3.5.7.2 (maybe Inherited from OOo).

Steps to reproduce:
1. New blank document.
2. File > Save as... > select "Rich Text (.rtf)" format > click Save (and confirm).
3. Insert > Image > From file...
4. Select image > check "Insert as link" option > click Open.
5. Click "Keep link" button.
6. File > Save (and confirm).

Observed results: Resultant file contains an embedded image. I created two versions (attached) with the included graphic linked e.g.,

$ grep -e png LOv4304_linked.rtf
{\*\flymaincnt5\flyanchor0\flycntnt}{\*\shppict{\pict{\*\picprop{\sp{\sn wzDescription}{\sv }}{\sp{\sn wzName}{\sv }}}\picscalex100\picscaley100\piccropl0\piccropr0\piccropt0\piccropb0\picw218\pich45\picwgoal3270\pichgoal675\pngblip

... and embedded:

$ grep -e png LOv4304_embedded.rtf
{\*\flymaincnt5\flyanchor0\flycntnt}{\*\shppict{\pict{\*\picprop{\sp{\sn wzDescription}{\sv }}{\sp{\sn wzName}{\sv }}}\picscalex100\picscaley100\piccropl0\piccropr0\piccropt0\piccropb0\picw218\pich45\picwgoal3270\pichgoal675\pngblip

Expected results: Linked images are linked rather than embedded.

Still repro from scratch.

Win 7 Pro 64-bit Version: 5.1.0.0.alpha1+

LibreOffice 3.3.0 didn't store a link nor an image, so this is at least better :)

Running the still version:

Version: 7.2.6.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: b0ec3a565991f7569a5a7f5d24fed7f52653d754
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Raster; VCL: win
Locale: pt-BR (pt_BR); UI: pt-BR
Calc: threaded Jumbo

And also the fresh version:

Version: 7.3.1.3 (x86) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: a69ca51ded25f3eefd52d7bf9a5fad8c90b87951
CPU threads: 8; OS: Windows 10.0 Build 19044; UI render: Skia/Vulkan; VCL: win
Locale: pt-BR (pt_BR); UI: en-US
Calc: threaded

I can confirm this bug still exists. Steps to reproduce, as it only happens when anchoring the linked image as a character:

1. Create a new text document;
2. Go to Menu Insert, Image, choose a picture and select the "Link" option;
3. Select the image, open the shortcut menu (secondary mouse button click), select Anchor, As character;
4. Go to Menu File, Save As, choose the Rich Text / RTF format.

The image is embedded on the RTF file and not only linked, as it would happen if the file was saved as ODT.

Dear FABIO AUGUSTO,

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present with the latest version of LibreOffice from https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a comment that includes the information from Help - About LibreOffice.

Please DO NOT

Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not
appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:
1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3) from https://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to 'inherited from OOo';
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add 'regression' to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: https://web.libera.chat/?settings=#libreoffice-qa
