Problem description: Steps to reproduce: 1. Add a vertical scrollbar in any text block 2. 2 useless solutions : floating frame or form control "text" box" 3. This 2 options are complexes, useless and buggy for this simple purpose Current behavior: Can't create diagrams with texts and vertical scrollbar Expected behavior: a diagramming tool should have by default an easy vertical scrollbar in any text block or paragraph in any shapes Operating System: Windows 7 Version: 4.3.1.2 release
The only methods of adding a scrollbar to a text object (in Draw) does appear to be via either: - Insert > Floating Frame... - Inserting a Text Box via Form Controls toolbar May require an amendment to the ODF specification (and apply to more components than just Draw). Status set to NEW. Severity set to enhancement. Platform set to All/All.
Dudes ! Are you serious ??? Libreoffice Draw is today the best free diagramming tool (even with better features than private softwares like smartdraw) but the scrollbar options availables here (Floating Frame and Form Controls toolbar even if you fix their issues) are not at all what we call a scroll bar for text blocks ; That's a big mistake for the future of this software if you don't think that this enhancement should be a priority : You should remove this funny Floating frame and his girlfriend floating form an add a REAL VERTICAL SCROOLBAR :D Libre office draw without a simple vertical scrollbar will not be used for his real poential.
Could you please add an use case why the scrollbar is important for you? I mean a block diagram is still a graphic and interactions are rather uncommon. Scrollbars could be handy for UI mockups but even there I'd rather go with a pictural representation instead of a fully supported widget (which is the form control). Changing the behavior of a text box affects all modules. With the UI in mind it requires an option in the text properties "Show Scrollbar" (off means the current behavior with text being cut off) plus "Always on", meaning to show the scrollbar even when the text fits into the box. The enabled state depends on "Show Scrollbar" that depends on the fit options. But first of all: Is there a use case for Writer/Impress/Draw? (Setting the component to Libreoffice)
Forgot to set the ML for CC. Question: Is there a use case for vertical scrollbars in text boxes?
No reply so close this ticket now. There is no clear use case for this enhancement and floating frames as well as form controls provide vertical scrolling.
