Screenshot which explains it all

Xubuntu 14.04, LibreOffice 4.2.6.3, Build ID: 420m0(Build:3)

Writer, when PDF file is opened, displays its content in quite a weird way - like some pages are damaged. Though Document Viewer have no such problem with the same file. Attached PNG file contains screenshot which explains it very clearly. At the right side of the image is a Document Viewer showng exactly the same place in PDF as Writer does.

Updating Summary.
Updating Component -> Drawing.

> LibreOffice 4.2.6.3

Are you sure about that version #? I don't think we ever made a 4.2.6.3 build...

It's possible that there's something in this particular PDF file that Draw can't currently render properly. Could you please upload a copy of the file, or (if it's too large for Bugzilla), provide a URL where it may be found?

Thanks!

Yes, as strange as it may seem, version i mentioned was displayed in Help -> About LibreOffice menu, see attached screenshot. Turned out that PDF file is indeed too large for mail server, so here's the link i got it from: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z87%28h87%29m-hd3_e.pdf

Yes we did, it was the "secfix" version...
Comment 4 Igor 2014-09-27 01:09:52 UTC

I may also add that i tested it with three more different PDF files from different sources, and the bug was there in all cases. It seems that text is displayed correctly, but when it gets to image area in the file, it happens.

Testing with file http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z87%28h87%29m-hd3_e.pdf

Opening the file in Draw confirms the bug. Pages 7-11 (among others) all show these out-of-place grids of icons.

Testing the same file in Evince 3.10.3 shows no out-of-place grids of icons.

No grids of icons are shown when I open this PDF in LibreOffice:
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/mac_pro_late-2013_gs.pdf

Igor: If you find more PDFs that demonstrate very similar problems, especially PDFs from different sources, please attach/link to them from this bug report.

Thanks!

More files:

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock370/815e/cusl2-ls/e660_ls99.pdf - when i'm trying to open this one with Writer, it requests the password, which turned to be empty. Neither Firefox nor Document Viewer didn't ask for one.

Comment 9 QA Administrators 2015-10-14 19:57:16 UTC
** Please read this message in its entirety before responding **

To make sure we're focusing on the bugs that affect our users today, LibreOffice QA is asking bug reporters and confirmers to retest open, confirmed bugs which have not been touched for over a year.

There have been thousands of bug fixes and commits since anyone checked on this bug report. During that time, it's possible that the bug has been fixed, or the details of the problem have changed. We'd really appreciate your help in getting confirmation that the bug is still present.

If you have time, please do the following:

Test to see if the bug is still present on a currently supported version of LibreOffice (5.0.1 or preferably 5.0.2.2 or later)
   https://www.libreoffice.org/download/

If the bug is present, please leave a comment that includes the version of LibreOffice and your operating system, and any changes you see in the bug behavior

If the bug is NOT present, please set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED-WORKSFORME and leave a short comment that includes your version of LibreOffice and Operating System

Please DO NOT

   Update the version field
Reply via email (please reply directly on the bug tracker)
Set the bug's Status field to RESOLVED - FIXED (this status has a particular meaning that is not appropriate in this case)

If you want to do more to help you can test to see if your issue is a REGRESSION. To do so:

1. Download and install oldest version of LibreOffice (usually 3.3 unless your bug pertains to a feature added after 3.3)

http://downloadarchive.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/old/

2. Test your bug
3. Leave a comment with your results.
4a. If the bug was present with 3.3 - set version to "inherited from OOo";
4b. If the bug was not present in 3.3 - add "regression" to keyword

Feel free to come ask questions or to say hello in our QA chat: http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=libreoffice-qa

Thank you for your help!

The manual has 11MB and 36 pages and it takes some minutes to open the file even on fast systems.

Since the bug looks like a question of placement I close it as duplicate of 88465 which contains a better test case. Hopefully this one here will be solve too.
