Description Nicola Dell'Uomo 2014-10-01 19:03:16 UTC
Problem description:

Mac OS X allows switching between several windows opened by the same application by pressing "cmd" key together with " ' " key (it's a default system option).

This hot keys combination works also with Libreoffice up to version 4.0.6; and it does NOT work for newer versions.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Libreoffice 4.2.x or later
2. open an application (e.g. writer) and several different windows;
3. select a window and press "cmd" and " ' " at the same time.

Current behavior:

NOTHING happens.

Expected behavior:

SWITCH between multiple windows opened by the application (e.g. writer).

Operating System: Mac OS X
Version: 4.2.0.4 release

Please test with a more recent version of LibreOffice - window switching works in 4304, but inserts an apostrophe at the cursor position
Comment 3 Nicola Dell'Uomo 2014-10-01 21:56:19 UTC
This bug is NOT a duplicate of bug 73586, since in Libreoffice 4.3.2 pressing "cmd" and " ' " won't switch between windows AND print the character " ' ", but it will just print " ' " without switching window.
Please refer to the previous description of this bug to know more details.

In 4304, on OSX 10.9.5, I can open two LO windows, e.g. Writer document and a database file, and switch between them with Cmd '
Comment 5 Alex Thurgood 2014-10-02 07:09:28 UTC
Also works on 4312
Comment 6 Alex Thurgood 2014-10-02 07:14:58 UTC
Nicola, do you have any tiling software installed, that might interfere with the switching function ?

Which keyboard/locale combination ?

I have tried this on 2 different MBPro machines, both having azerty keyboards and configured with FR system locale. LO uses the default languages for interface and spelling, ie. I have the French lang pack installed.

This also works for me on 4400 alpha master build (my own 64bit build)
Comment 8 Nicola Dell'Uomo 2014-10-02 08:22:55 UTC
I don't think it's something related to my keyboard conf, because when I switch back to 4.0.6 everything works as before.
I have Mac OS X 10.8.5.
However I didn't try the combination to switch between different libreoffice apps (e.g. writer, calc and database) but just to switch between windows opened by THE SAME app (e.g. three windows opened by writer).
In Libreoffice 4.0.6 I can still switch between windows opened by the same app (es: three windows opened by writer); if I install later versions I can't.
Can this be due to a change in default Libreoffice settings I was not aware of?
Comment 9 Alex Thurgood 2014-10-02 09:21:26 UTC
(In reply to Nicola Dell'Uomo from comment #8)

I can switch between 4 writer documents, so it isn't the document type that makes a difference.

Possibly, your LO profile has a problem, try renaming it with LO not running and then restarting LO.

Alternatively, this could be a problem specific to OSX 10.8 and lower

Alex, which version do you use?
Libreoffice 4.3.2?

I've tried 3672, 4132, 4233, 4252, 4304, 4312, 4322, and 4400 alpha (master own build) - they all work

I really can't understand: I've deleted all application users directory, then reinstalled and it's the same: with 4.0.6 everything works fine, with 4.3.2 nothing happens.

This afternoon I'll try with another Mac with Mac OS X 10.9.

I'll let you know!

Adding self to CC if not already on
Comment 14 Nicola Dell'Uomo 2015-01-04 09:49:02 UTC
I installed a brand new MAC OS X Mavericks on a clean HD on 01.01.15: I can confirm the bug on a brand new installation (new OS installation AND first libreoffice installation).
Mac OS version is 10.9.5; libreoffice version is 4.3.5.2 (localised in Italian).

When I open more than one windows on THE SAME application (e.g. writer), "cmd" + " ' " doesn't allow switching between windows (as libreoffice did up to 4.0.6.2).

As switching betweeen different apps is concerned (this is not the normal mac os X effect of "cmd" + " ' ", which habitually switch windows between the SAME app) "cmd" + " ' " allows switching only between libreoffice database app and another libreoffice app but not viceversa (so only once).

In writer "cmd" + " ' " leads to no switch and print a " - " with grey background on the active window.

Hope this helps.

Nicola

Just adding another data point
osx 10.10.1
LO 4.5 nightly 2015-01-09
LO 4.4RC1

both WORKSFORME

Pressing cmd + shift + ´

Other QA members report that cmd + ´ works, but for me (german keyboard) it doesn't. I have to use cmd + shirt + ´

The bug title is misleading since "'" is never used in any of the discussed and working variants.

So you might want to play a bit until you find the combination which works for you.
Comment 16 Nicola Dell'Uomo 2015-01-10 13:03:15 UTC
I can confirm cmd + shift + ' doesn't work with libreoffice 4.3.5.2 (italian version); nor cmd + alt + ' or cmd + ctrl + ' does.

By the way, switching between windows with cmd + shift + ' would be a bug, as the standard mac os x configuration is cmd + ' to shift between windows opened by the same application.
Comment 17 Alex Thurgood 2015-01-12 11:49:26 UTC
@Nicola : please do not re-open worksforme bug report unles you have some further useful information to add, i.e. further more detailed information about your particular setup or circumstances in which you see this bug.

This works fine for me on OSX 10.10.1 and LO

Version: 4.3.5.2
Build ID: 3a87456aaa6a95c63eea1c1b3201acedf0751bd5

64 bit

using a bluetooth AZERTY wireless Apple keyboard and French locale.

I opened three separate LO database files, and corresponding forms and query windows within each. I can switch between the open db windows using the Cmd+` character.

If you have a problem, it is more likely related to one or more of the following:

- the particular version of LO you are using ;
- the particular keyboard you are using ;
- the locale you are using (system and keyboard, as both can be different);
- the version of OSX you are using ;
- possibly corrupt user profile configuration folder (although you already reported as having tested this hypothesis).

So, if there is a bug, make sure you provide complete details of the test bed you are using where you experienced the bug, and alter the title correspondingly. As others have mentioned, they can get this to work with a different combination of keys which works for them in their locale and their version of OSX. At best, the bug will be left in the unconfirmed state until someone with the same setup can confirm. Until then I am resetting this back to WFM.

@Alex

As you asked I won't reopen this bug anymore and I'll continue using libreoffice 4.0.6 (or an alternative office suite) until this bug is resolved.

Regards.
