This is a sanitized version of the spreadsheet where I'm having problems.

Every time I sort within CALC, it aborts UNLESS I have JUST saved the file. In other words, if I make any edits, then sort the data, it aborts. Mind you it saves the info first and recovers pretty well. However, I find that the first column of my sorted info is sorted but the remaining columns are not. Thus I now have a data mis-match.

This is my check register.
Col A is the day of the month.
Col B is whether the check has cleared (1 = cleared, 0 = not cleared)
Col C is who I sent the check to.
Col D is the amount of the check (negative is a check)
Col E is a deposit (positive number)

I will enter info in columns A, C, and (D or E). Then I will highlight a range of cells that I wish to sort by date. For instance I'll highlight A5:E18, then choose Data, Sort, Sort Key 1 = Column A. As soon as I hit OK, I get an error message that LO needs to restart and saves the data. However, after the recovery, everything is like it was before it aborted EXCEPT that column A is already sorted.

I'm not sure this happens EVERY time but it's pretty close. Now save the file before I sort (but occasionally forget). I'm always frustrated. This also happened in the previous version of LO that I had (don't recall the version).

The only unique features I have are the conditional formatting and the formula in column G. The conditional formatting looks for a 1 in Col B. If it is 1, then Cols A, B, and C turn blue (check has cleared). Also, in Col G, the formula is looking for a 1 in Col B to included that line's value in the Cleared total. However, NOTHING is looking for anything to do with the date (Col A, the sort key).

Let me know if you need screen captures of the error messages or showing the error happening.

So I'm running Linux and I kind of guessed at how you're sorting. Please note the other issue (the data mismatch) should be reported separately.

I see no crash. What I did is added some extra text, did not save, highlight A3:G89, then I clicked the icon in the toolbar that is "sort A-Z", sorted fine, then I did "sort Z-A." I see no crash at all.

Ubuntu 14.04
LibreOffice 4.3.2.2 release

If you're doing some other method of sorting please provide simple (as simple as possible) reproducible steps that are enumerated. QA has to read thousands of bug reports - having to dig through paragraphs of text to figure out the reproducible steps makes it a lot harder. Thanks!

Screen capture of what I did.

The Screen Capture/Bug Report slide shows that I changed the value in A22 so that it was out of order. Then I highlighted the indicated area and chose File, Sort, as indicated in the pop up window.

The first time I did it nothing unusual happened. I hit Ctrl Z to put it back where it was and repeated the sort. This time it aborted (see second page of the Bug Report document).

Could we have a bug document and a description of exact steps how to reproduce the crash with that document?
Comment 4 Jean-Baptiste Faure 2014-11-11 17:25:00 UTC
No crash for me with the bug doc (attachment 107525 [details]) and the scenario described in comment #2. Tested with master (4.4.0.0.alpha2+) and 4.3.4.0.0+.

Set status back to unconfirmed.

Sorry, I didn't read well the version used by the reporter. I reproduce the crash with 4.2.6.3 under Ubuntu 14.10 x86-64.
Steps to reproduce:

1/ open attachment 107525 [details] with LO 4.2.6.3
2/ in A20 type 10 instead of 8
3/ select rows 19-22
4/ click on the button "Sort Ascending"
5/ click on Undo button
6/ redo 4/
==> crash.

Best regards. JBF

4-2 is EOL, 4.2.8 was the last release, maybe it is even fixed there? We did quite some work on sort bugs. Is this reproducible in later versions 4.3.5, 4.0.0.x or master? If not then please resolve this bug as worksforme.
Comment 7 Joel Madero 2015-01-11 21:05:25 UTC
I see no crash on 4.4.0.2 rc so closing as WFM. If either original reporter or the person who confirmed can reproduce you can set back to NEW. Thanks!

No crash anymore for me if I replace version 4.2.6 with version 4.2.8 under Ubuntu 14.10 x86-64.
