It would be useful to have the 'Sum' button as a group button with a drop down list of other commonly used functions like AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, MIN, and the last entry being 'more functions', which opens the function wizard.

Hi Jay,

OK, but adding 'more function' is the same as the nice icon that is left of the Sum, so IMO superfluous.
Cheers
Cor

Hi Cor,

Well i was going to suggest disabling that button, but not sure how people would react to that. :D

Hi Jay,

I see no need to change that. It's a beautiful icon, room enough, and a distinctive visual element, and oh yes: fast access for those clicking :)

Adding other functions doesn't make much sense if you take the special handling into account that the Sum button provides, differentiating between mere data above or data interspersed with other SUM formula cells. I suggest to drop this idea.

The special handling of auto selecting the range that happens when clicking the Sum button is a good feature and if the function in the list can benefit from the feature, it should auto select the range, but if it doesnt, then it should simply insert the function into the cell, just like it would simply insert '=SUM()' into a field that isnt near a range.

This was implemented in bug 120697.
