Test file

Steps to reproduce:
- Open the attached text.xlsx in LO
- Enter some text
- Save
- Open in Excel 2007

Result:
Error message "Excel found unreadable content in 'test.xls'. Do you want to recover the contents of this workbook?"

Excel 2010 doesn´t show an error message but just like Excel 2007 cannot close the document with "Ctrl+W" afterwards.

If you remove rows 3 and 4 in Excel before opening in LO, then follow the steps above, you won´t get the error message, but still cannot close with Ctrl+W.

(Not a direct LO problem) If you then edit the file in Excel, save it, close, and reopen, Excel 2007 shows the document not maximized inside it´s own window and you cannot resize the document window.

Perhaps related to Bug 83070.

No error message, could close with ctrl-w.

I can confirm with
Version: 4.4.3.0.0+
Build ID: 3eba5eb1774ab621a1f0f4dcc7e82cce6c025b0a
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@46-TDF, Branch:libreoffice-4-4, Time: 2015-03-27_09:07:12
Version: 4.4.3.0.0+
Build ID: 3eba5eb1774ab621a1f0f4dcc7e82cce6c025b0a
TinderBox: Linux-rpm_deb-x86_64@46-TDF, Branch:libreoffice-4-4, Time: 2015-03-27_09:07:12
and excel2010

When I delete freeze (menu Window-Freeze), then I see no problem in excel.

@Larsen, please test deleting freeze with excel2007.
Comment 4 Larsen 2015-04-04 16:47:31 UTC
Removed freeze, added text, saved in LO and opened in Excel 2007.
Excel 2007 still needs to recover.

Warning message (translated from German, may not be accurate):
'Repaired part: /xl/worksheets/sheet1.xml-Part with XML error. Error on loading. Row 2, Column 247.'

From the recovery log (translated from German):
'repairedParts summary="The following repairs have been made:_x000d__x000a__x000d__x000a_"'

Layout is broken:
- In the first row only some cells are with a black background instead of all
- In the second row less cells have a yellow background than before
- In the third row only some cells have the double underline (different columns than the cells with the black background)

I am able to save/close the file with Ctrl+W. Re-opening doesn´t show the warning anymore.

No problem in master. Seems to be fixed.
Comment 6 Larsen 2015-04-16 06:56:50 UTC
In which version will this be available or has been released?

Markus refers to 4.5/5.0
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/4.5

You can test with 4.4Dev build if fix is also here

The numbers denote the build boxes, you can pick either one.

Tested with http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/libreoffice-4-4/Win-x86@42/2015-04-15_07.23.04/libo-44~2015-04-15_07.23.04_LibreOfficeDev_4.4.4.0.0_Win_x86.msi

Problem persists. After saving the file in LO, Excel needs to repair it.

Not all fixes go into 4.4 builds. It's a master directory on FTP.

Ok, is there a MSI available for me to test?

Sure. You can take this, for example: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@39/2015-04-16_00.26.27/

4.5 doesn´t run on WinXP anymore and I don´t have another VM for testing at the moment.

Apologies, here is a version that has WinXP compatibility: http://dev-builds.libreoffice.org/daily/master/Win-x86@62-TDF/2015-04-15_23.25.34/
