Description micke_wahlberg 2015-01-30 14:04:28 UTC
A document with formatted (word wrap, adjustment etc) empty cells (yes, it is important to continue write in the document and get the same looks) is saved in Excel 97/2000/XP/2003 format (also important since the document is shared between computers with different offiec installations). When the document is reopened the formatting is lost.

.ods version, keeps cell format

This is a very simple spreadsheet I started with. As you can see, rows 2 and three keeps the format (col1 fat, col 2 right adjust, col 3 wrap) between close and open. This is as it should work.

.xls version, BUG, drops format between close and open

This is the same spreadsheet as my recent .ods attachment, only saved in Microsoft Excel 97/XP... format (.xls). As is very apparent, the formatting in rows 2 and 3 is gone. You can format e.g. col 1 to fat, col 2 to right adjusted, and maybe all rows to top adjustment and word wrap. Then write something in the cells and you see that the format is ok. Delete just the test text you wrote, save the document and close it. Reopen it, and write test text in the recently formatted cells. Voila, the formatting is gone !

Hi !
I have changed the LO version to 4.3.3.2 since that's what I have. I do not know if this bug is still in the latest version.
I have attached two files with comments, the bug is very simple to reproduce.
Just make a spreadsheet and format empty cells (adjusstments, word wrap etc) and save the document in .xls format (MS Escel 97/XP/2003). Close the document and reopen it and the formatting is gone. Every change INCLUDING cell formatting shall be kept when saving a document regardless of document type.

I spelled Excel wrong in this comment. Is it possible to remove comments ? I did not find a way within one minute....

Win10
Version: 4.3.7.2 Build ID: 8a35821d8636a03b8bf4e15b48f59794652c68ba
and
Version: 5.0.1.2 (x64) Build ID: 81898c9f5c0d43f3473ba111d7b351050be20261

formats in xls are opened like with the ods, the only difference is the font "Arial" for xls, and "Liberations Sans" for ods.

If you can update the version, all versions here:

otherwise please try resetting the user profile, sometimes solves strange issues.
